Shun, Shag, Or Marry: The Milquetoast Hosts Of Reality TV

Sure, Jeff Probst has dimples the size of the Grand Canyon, but his function on “Survivor” is pretty much only to deliver the line, “The tribe has spoken.” Oh, and to snuff out that flame. Like Chris Harrison on “The Bachelor” and Ryan Seacrest on “American Idol,” he mainly blends into the scenery of the show and doesn’t actually get to show much personality. So we were surprised to hear that Jeff will soon be hosting his on daytime talk show, which will cover everything from “newsmakers to ordinary families in extraordinary circumstances.” I’m just not sure what to expect with that. In honor of Jeff’s new gig, I think it’s time to Shun, Shag, and Marry he and his fellow reality TV hosts. Keep reading »

Is West Lee The New Emily Maynard? And Is “The Bachelor” Cashing In On Personal Tragedies?

The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” have long been known for casting types—the workaholic, the basketcase, the party heartier. But it looks like after last season, when Emily Maynard became a fan favorite because of the resilience she showed in talking about her fiance who died in a plane crash years before the show, it appears the franchise has a new type—the tragedian. For the second season in a row, the producers have cast a contestant with something deeper than a traumatizing breakup in their past—they’ve lost spouses in tragic accidents.

This season, that contestant is West Lee, who is currently vying for the love of Ashley Hebert. Keep reading »

10 Changes “The Bachelor” Franchise Needs To Make If They Want Us To Take Them Seriously

Am I really about to get involved in the latest season of “The Bachelorette” with Ashley Hebert, a girl who in my estimation, is not really ready to settle down? I say this because at the end of last season, when she and Brad Womack were getting down to brass tacks, she hadn’t even considered the idea she may have to move to another state to be with him. Red flag that she may not be ready for marriage. The show, while highly entertaining, has lost all credibility. Trista and Ryan Stutter’s love was a fluke that producers have been fruitlessly trying to replicate since season one. I suppose Jason Mesnick and Molly Melaney are still going strong as well, but not without their fair share of scandal. Brad Womack and Emily Maynard are already over (well at least I think they are). I can’t say I’m the least bit surprised. It’s gotten to the point where you expect every “Bachelor” couple to fail. The show has become more about bikinis and less about betrothal. “The Bachelor” franchise needs to make a few changes if they want us to start taking them seriously agin. After the jump, a few suggestions. Keep reading »

Heidi Montag, Jake Pavelka & Danielle Staub Starring In A Reality Show. Like, Together.

So, Heidi Montag, Jake Pavelka, and Danielle Staub walk into a bar. No, sadly, this is not a joke. Apparently, this is a new reality TV show. The three were in Los Angeles filming the series today and were photographed around a lunch table together. We have no idea what exactly the show will be, especially considering that the only thing uniting these three is that fact that they were controversy lightening rods on “The Hills,” “The Bachelor,” and “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” respectively. Maybe they’ll team up to fight crime? Or perhaps this is a new-fangled “Three’s Company”? Or a porno? Your guess is as good as mine. But, gulp, we will be watching. Frisky Q&A: DeAnna Pappas On Finding Love, For Real This Time

DeAnna Pappas has had a long, strange ride on “The Bachelor.” First, she fell for Brad Womack, only for him to walk away without proposing to either woman at his final rose ceremony. Next, she came back as “The Bachelorette” and fell in love with quirky snowboarder Jesse Csincak, only to find out they weren’t compatible after all. Finally, she met the twin brother of a guy from Jillian Harris’ season of “The Bachelorette,” and fell in love—this time for real. And while she’s in the midst of planning her wedding, she had the surreal experience of sitting back on the couch and watching Brad get a second shot at “Bachelor”-dom.

On April 9th and 10th, DeAnna will be one of the guests of honor at the Reality Rocks Expo, a two-day conference celebrating the phenomenon of reality TV. To get ready, she sat down with The Frisky to talk about her upcoming wedding, what reality TV auditions are really like, and, of course, whether Brad and Emily will make it. Keep reading »

Dating Good Guys

Not every woman wants to date an a-hole. Read More »

We were just waiting for Emily Maynard to jump from “BachelorBrad Womack’s loveboat. His “I’m a perfect guy now” facade was crumbling by the second during the finale. What was her first hint? When he got angry at her for questioning that his desire to be a father to her daughter was enough? How dare she! Or was it when Brad’s brother warned her “not to poke the bear”? If there’s a bear within capable of being provoked, you best believe we’re not sticking around to make its acquaintance. We’re glad Emily decided very wisely not to walk down the aisle — at least for now. After the jump, some things a guy could say that would make us hightail it in the opposite direction. Add yours in the comments. Keep reading »
