Amelia and I were just talking about how much better we think Taylor Swift looks with bangs than without. Ever since she took the bangs plunge earlier this year, Swift just looks way more elegant and chic. The bangs really frame her face and make her look more mature.

I’ll probably always have bangs, because I’m too impatient to grow my hair out, and sideswept bangs seem to really frame my face best. And Amelia has had bangs for basically her entire life, ever since her mom gave her an epic bowl cut in 1984. But bangs don’t necessarily work on everyone.

We’ve got several other celebs who got banged up in the past year — sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Can we give it up for Taylor Swift, who has, in the last few months, really evolved her look? Taylor is showing that her style has become more grownup, but she hasn’t done a complete 180 on the fashion front, like so many teen stars. Her taste is still girly and slightly retro, but many of her outfits lately have introduced a little bit of edge, without beating us over the head with it. I love the simplicity of this outfit; the mustard-colored denim shorts and loosely tied shirt are casually cool, but the bright red lips and glam shades dress it up just a touch. Marie Claire Australia made one of those charming facial mashups, where they take all of the most coveted features of the moment and mold them into one celebrity Frankenstein. This heavenly creature features Taylor Swift’s hair, Natalie Portman’s nose, Scarlett Johansson’s lips, Halle Berry’s jaw, January Jones’ cheeks and Anne Hathaway’s eyes. All that work, and I must say, she comes out looking eerily similar to Faith Hill. Am I right? I wonder if Faith’s pissed that she didn’t get a mention. [Beek Week Ever]

Not only can Taylor Swift sing, but she can also own the hell out of a magazine cover, as evidenced in both the February issue of Vogue and her latest turn on the front of Harper’s Bazaar Australia. I’m always pleasantly surprised by just how beautifully she photographs for high fashion; it really is kind of a paradox considering the brand of sweet country music she creates. She looks grown-up and believable in the clothes that she’s wearing, not at all like she’s playing dress up. It makes me want to like her more than I do… which is not that much, especially now that she’s rumored to be courting Tim Tebow, who makes me feel like crying. [Celebitchy]

Generally, Taylor Swift’s style isn’t really my thing. She’s very girly and while I like girly touches, I like a little bit of edge. So I surprised myself when I saw these photos of Taylor and thought, Dang, I totally want to steal that look. Actually, this is a look I think would look adorable on Jessica, who does generally favor a more girly sense of style. Go ahead, put me down on the roster of people who were strongly opposed to Taylor Swift’s visage plastered across the February cover of Vogue. I’ve always thought of her as young, immature, and reeking of eau de teenybopper: cowboy boots, a guitar, and a prom dress? No, thanks. Lo and behold, the chops she showed in the magazine caught me off guard, and I’ve begun to see the country-pop songstress in a different light. She looks all kinds of grown-up on the cover, and photos of her draped in Rodarte on plush couches in the editorial show her to be a formidable fashion girl and clothes-hanger as well. Taylor has grown exponentially since she first appeared on the scene as a curly-haired, button-nosed country bumpkin. Maybe I can find a bit of room in my heart for her, after all. Here’s a look back at her style metamorphosis.
