Tavi Lends Her Voice To A New Animated Short Film

It’s hard not to love Tavi. I’m generally opposed to any and all things “twee,” but Tavi has enough brains and sass to transcend the genre. When I first heard about this “13-year-old fashion blogger” a couple years ago, I envisioned a delusional, entitled teen brandishing her mother’s Birkin bag, shooting photos of herself on a $1,000+ digital camera she got for her birthday (thank god that kind of thing is mostly relegated to my hometown). In other words, a childlike slip of a girl with wide, unsettling eyes and an old soul was not the image that sprung to mind — but that’s Tavi! At first, I was a skeptic; now, I’m a fan … and pretty much everyone else is, too. Keep reading »

  • Teen style blogger Tavi Gevinson’s web magazine, Rookie, for teen girls is set to launch on Monday. Tavi Interviews Gwen Stefani For “Teen Vogue”

Freelance writing may have dried up for a lot of journalists, but the well has not yet run dry for Tavi. The 14-year-old fashion blogger got a gig a million girls would die for interviewing Gwen Stefani about her L.A.M.B. line for Teen Vogue! Writing in the February issue, Tavi initially revealed herself to be wary of celebrity-designed lines. “I can’t say I’m enthusiastic about the recent celebrity-turned-designer trend. In fact, I’m a skeptic,” she wrote. “Too often I feel people are expected to drop a couple hundred dollars just because X celebrity was good in Y sitcom, thus somehow making X’s design abilities top-notch.” Agreed. (Sorry, LiLo, but your products suck.) Keep reading »

Tavi And Jane Pratt To Start “Sassy”-Esque Teen Mag (And You Can Be A Part Of It!)

The media lords hath heard our prayers! If you aren’t already freaking out, you will when you hear this: Fashion blogging sensation Tavi and Jane Pratt (founder and editor of Sassy and Jane mags) are teaming up to create a new teen magazine. Tavi made the announcement on her blog, saying, “You guys may know how I feel about Sassy. You also may know that I’ve been babbling about how I think our generation should get one, too. Jane Pratt, founding editor and then EIC of Sassy, also became aware, and emailed me, and we’ve met a couple times, and it looks like we’re going to start a magazine for an audience of wallflowerly teenage girls.”

People like us have been clamoring for ages for a Sassy revival, and we could see the potential for that to happen with Tavi, but as she wisely points out, “[this magazine] won’t be Sassy (or the rebirth of Sassy, or Sassy 2.0) and nor do we want it to be.” Rather, the publication will “use Sassy as a point of reference for the whole teen-magazine-that-doesn’t-suck thing …” We love how Tavi wants to create something new but still retain the nostalgia for an era that feels creative to us now … Keep reading »

Tavi And Sea Of Shoes Party It Up For Halloween

Well, you can file this under “awesome costumes I should have thought of before.” Brad Goreski and a friend went to Lanvin’s Halloween party (um, jealous much?) dressed as America’s most loved fashion bloggers: Tavi and Jane Aldridge. If you’re playing Jane, all you need is a red wig and a super designer outfit (an easy cop-out if you just want to look cute). For Tavi: a couple weird layers of clothing, a crazy hair color, and a big-ass bow. [Show Ponies and Pretty People] Keep reading »

What Do You Think Of This Short Film Tavi Story Produced?

Up until recently, fashion blogger Tavi‘s professional work in the fashion industry could be called “gimmicky”—projects that rely on Tavi’s character as a young blogger. Yet lately, the smart fashion enthusiast has chosen to remain behind the scenes of her work. Like in this video she produced in collaboration with Alia Raza and Derek Blasberg and starring Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. We’re not exactly clear on what “story produced” means. The Cut refers to her as the screenwriter, but the clip has no words, so we’re assuming Tavi came up with Roitfeld’s actions, costume ideas, and props. Keep reading »
