Sweet Release: What’s In And Out The Week Of August 12th 2008

MUSIC

  • Jonas Brothers A Little Bit Longer
The Jonas Brothers have put out! Sadly, we mean just another record. Despite the suggestive title, the handsome teen trio won’t give it or the music biz up anytime soon and they’re pretty hip for being squares.
  • The Cure “The Perfect Boy (Mix 13)”
While Robert Smith has been a bit of a Debbie Downer, singing sad songs since the ’90s, it looks like even he’s coming back with the ’80s. The Cure just released a new single, “The Perfect Boy”, and it’s as sexy as the guy it’s about. No word on whether Smith has wiped off his runny mascara and smeared lipstick look too, but hey, at least he still sounds good!

  • Carla Bruni
  • Comme Si de Rien N’Etait
Former model and current outspoken first lady of France Carla Bruni has released a record so sweet and simply sexy that you know she’s exactly the kind of classy slut she says she is. While you might not be able to pronounce the album title, you should definitely play Comme Si de Rien N’Etait at your next dinner party. (NOTE: The title means “as if nothing happened.” Translation courtesy of Megs, who got straight A’s in French class.) Keep reading »

BOOKS

  • Life With My Sister Madonna by Christopher Ciccone
Surprisingly enough, the thing we’re excited the most about this week is a book…okay, so it’s not War and Peace obvi, but it is about Madonna! Written by her brother, (who is gay of course), it’s supposed to be a tell-all that shows the real way to Madonna’s heart isn’t through blood relation, but through her crotch. Duh! Still we can’t wait to read it!

MUSIC

  • Albert Hammond Jr.Como Te Llama?
Albert Hammond Jr. releases his second record sans the Strokes — Como Te Llama?, or, “What’s Your Name?” in Spanish. If you didn’t already know the guitar hero’s name, you won’t forget him and his sonic lovin’ after this record. Softer, sweeter, and joyous (especially for a hipster), Hammond has laid down beautiful tracks with his band, which features a member of another popular NYU group, Marc Phillipe from the defunct Sexy Magazines. While we are all waiting for the Strokes’ record #4, if Hammond is going to go off and make songs on his own like this, at least the hold music rocks.
