Cindy Crawford Was Judged By Her Calculus Professor Because Of Her Looks

What A Frustrating Lesson!

OK, so it’s a little difficult to feel tons of sympathy for the genetically blessed amongst us. But everyone has their struggles in life and when you’re a person who is only known for their looks, sometimes people treat you like you don’t have any brains. Case in point: Cindy Crawford learned an awful lesson about judgment on her first day of college calculus. The supermodel received a scholarship to study chemical engineering at Northwestern University, but all her professor seemed to see when he looked at her was a pretty face. Watch this clip from “Oprah’s Master Class” as Cindy tells her sobering (and infuriating) story — and think twice before you assume someone is dumb just because she or he is attractive. Before They Were Supermodels…

Guess Who Got The Coveted September Cover Of Vogue?

September is a big month for magazines — it’s traditionally when the largest (i.e. heaviest!) issues come out, packing in the most advertising pages and helping to pad the bankroll for the rest of the year. Vogue‘s September issue is so major that it even had a documentary made about it. Last year, Halle Berry graced the cover; so who is it this year? Why, it’s the Great Kate! Kate Moss dishes on her new nuptials to Kills frontman Jamie Hince. While, yes, she is a supermodel, it’s nice to see someone over the age of 22 on the cover of a major fashion magazine. A Supermodel Then … And Now

We should all be so lucky to age as gracefully as Carmen Dell’Orefice. Dell’Orefice started her modeling career when she covered Vogue in 1947. At 80, she’s still walking the runways. Most recently, she’s walked for John Galliano, Hermes and Alberta Ferretti. Dear Universe, this is how I want my life to play out. [HP] Keep reading »

Janice Dickinson Had A Fake Teeth Fiasco At A Hamptons Restaurant

“It was the most incredulous moment that you’d never want to happen … I couldn’t find [my teeth]! Did they fall into the soup? These things are so expensive they could feed a small village. I was like Lucille Ball on crack, diving under the table like a porpoise … Age sucks. And thank God my boyfriend wasn’t there.”

Janice Dickinson, who we so wish would return for the next season on “America’s Next Top Model,” tells Page Six an amazing story about losing two false teeth while at a super shmancy restaurant in the Hamptons. In the end she found her teeth on the floor, washed them off, and popped them back her mouth. I dunno, I think her boyfriend—who is 24 years her junior—might have been amused. Maybe he would have sung a round of “All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth?” [NY Post] Keep reading »

Herve Leger Thinks Models Are Too Skinny And Sad

“If I had to go back to catwalk presentations I would be in a panic .. .Already the models I find are too skinny, too sad. And I knew the age of the super top models, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford, who were always lively and smiling. Today you go between several défilés and you will see the exact same type of girl — it just doesn’t inspire me. Of course I do presentations, I do three presentations a year: spring, fall and cruise, that I show at my showroom and what I like is to have the buyers come to me. They buy, things sell well, and that really gives me the feeling of existing for something because I know that somewhere out there in the world I have clients that adore what I’m doing and that’s really reward enough.”

–Designer Herve Leger, whose legendary bandage dresses are worn by every young starlet ever, on the sad state of skinny models today. Leger does stlll do catwalk shows for his Max Azria collections. [Vogue UK] Keep reading »

Anna Sui Longs For The Supermodel Days

“It’s a different time. We are now going through a period of a lot of Eastern European. It’s more about their look than their personalities. It was the most terrifying thing to do fittings with supermodels, because they would come in and look at your Polaroid board and count how many outfits they had, what order they came out in, and who were they next to. They would say things like, ‘She is taller than me, and I am not coming out after her,’ ‘How come she has three outfits, and I only have two,’ and ‘I want that outfit.’ They’d literally pull the Polaroid off the board and say they want to wear this. There was a reason they were supermodels, though. When they put on an outfit, everyone was floored.”

Anna Sui, remembering a time when supermodels ruled the catwalk and the casting call. Click on the source link to read how Karl Lagerfeld first became aware of Anna. [Fashionologie] Keep reading »
