Boots Are Coming Out Of Their Summer Hibernation

We normally put away our boots in favor of flip-flops and sandals when summer comes, but ankle boots have made their presence known on red carpets of late, and we’re trying to decide whether we should keep our feet ensconced in leather for the next few months.

“There are certain women who are just over wearing dresses with delicate shoes,” designer Alexander Wang told The New York Times. “They enjoy the irony of pairing something heavy with something short and sexy.” Keep reading »

Q&A: Theory’s Istvan Francer On Spring/Summer Fashion Trends

Theory is synonymous with impeccably fitted items that have a look that is fashion-y, but at the same time simple and clean. Keeping in mind Theory’s emphasis on fit, quality and polished/chic look, I asked Theory’s Women’s Design Director Istvan Francer a few questions on how to wear this spring/summer’s hottest looks. What Ever Happened To This Summer’s “Must Haves”?

Every month a gazillion magazines boldly discover the top three items we must have for this season. I mean must in the sense that the articles foretold our fashion doom if we did immediately drop the glossy pages and run to the mall. I will give the magazines their due, most of them have toned down on the necessity of buying a new closet every year and the average price of featured items are not as absurdly high as they used to be. So, when all the magazines this winter told me there were only three must have trends for this summer, my glee poured from every fiber of my fashion being…until I realized what these trends were: harem pants, jumpsuits and sheer. Maybe it’s just me, but I have not seen one everyday woman wearing harem pants down the street. These trends died a premature death, with is just fine with me because I thought they were butt-ugly anyway, but why did these three die when so many other fugly trends are allowed to live on? Here are my diagnoses on why the three major must have’s died. Keep reading »

What To Wear: Summer Job Interview

It’s hot. It’s sunny, and you have a job interview. You must look savvy, chic and like the job candidate any company would be so lucky to have. But you don’t want to sweat through your three-season suit you rely on through the fall, winter and spring. Solution? Something crisp, airy and modern, like the Banana Republic collarless linen jacket paired with their white cotton-blend sheath dress. You’ll be comfortable and look totally put together. Shoes are a tough act, because most sandals are too casual. To avoid any possible offense, either stick with a classic pump or a peep-toe heel like this DAVIS by Ruthie Davis patio peep toe hidden platform pump. Check out the slideshow for more great summer job interview pieces! Keep reading »

Round Sunglasses Are The Next Big Thing We Won’t Be Buying

We’d seen the round glasses trend creeping up slowly for the last couple years. It became especially apparent the circle shades would blow up at some point when Mary-Kate Olsen, always the trendsetter, began wearing John Lennon-style wireframes on a regular basis. And then goggle-like pairs were paraded down the runways of Proenza Schouler, Lanvin, and Marc Jacobs. Now, the New York Times has declared this the summer of round-framed sunglasses, and we’re aghast. Keep reading »

14 Rules For Summer Dressing

We’re shedding our winter clothes (and showing some skin) now that the temperature is heating up. But since we live in an area that is chilly for more than half of the year, we have to relearn how to dress and groom for warm weather every year. Here are the rules to avoid fashion faux pas, embarrassment, and offending others after the jump. Keep reading »

Nike Does Gladiator Sandals, And We Like Them

If these Nike gladiator sandals were a person, they’d be the middle-school bully who beat up all the wimpy gladiator sandals from last season. They’re the brainchild of Art Center College design student Nancy and were created for Nike’s Remixed and Recut hybrid footwear line for Summer 2009. Hybrid is the perfect word to describe the sandals. They’re perfect for hitting the pavement while shopping or sightseeing, but they could transition to night with the right mini-dress. Sadly, they’re sold out. But if you love them as much as I do, you’ll keep checking Colette in hopes of scoring your pair. [Fashion Indie] Keep reading »
