Style Inspiration: Nashville Right Now

I spent the weekend in Nashville, listening to bluegrass jam bands, googling “Where do Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman hang out?” and eating way more BBQ than any human being should consume in such a short time period. It was glorious. I loved the city, and was totally inspired by the fashion, which is such a fun mix of feminine southern belle style and edgier, trendy pieces. Read on to find out how to get the Nashville look for yourself… Keep reading »

Unlikely Style Inspiration: Nate Ruess From Fun.

On Friday I went to a Fun. concert. Like, the band Fun. And it was really fun. And all this fun talk is getting very confusing. Anyway, to the point: lead singer Nate Ruess put on a great show, and his look was on point: rolled skinny jeans, white oxfords, and a classic navy blazer. After the concert not only did I have “We Are Young” stuck in my head for the rest of the weekend (and possible the rest of my life), I was dying to steal Nate’s preppy/hipster style for myself. I’ll totally be rocking this look with a messy bun and hot pink lipstick. Shopping details after the jump! Keep reading »

On this day 35 years ago, the world lost the king of rock and roll. Elvis Presley’s tragic death at 42 shocked the nation and, as then-president Jimmy Carter made clear, irreparably changed the face of American pop culture. Elvis’s most celebrated tracks, not to mention his heartbreaking slow-motion fall from grace, may be seared into our collective memory, but let’s not forget the influence he had on fashion as well at the time — and I don’t just mean his jumpsuit phase. So without further ado, let’s garner some style inspiration from that old beloved hound dog (and with just a touch of help from Priscilla) …

Style Inspiration: Team USA Women’s Gymnastics

We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again: we looooove our women’s gymnastics team! Gabby, McKayla, Jordyn, Kyla, and Aly [So many Ys! -- Editor] put on an amazing show and took home a stack of well-deserved gold medals for their efforts (I totally cried when Aly landed the final combination in her floor routine–did you?). These young women have us doing somersaults in our living rooms, and that’s not all: suddenly we want a sparkly red wardrobe to match their gorgeous leotards. You too? Style Inspiration: Selina Kyle In “The Dark Knight Rises”

I wasn’t sure about Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman), but after seeing “The Dark Knight Rises” this weekend, I am totally on board. Anne’s Selina was brilliant, strong, complex, and clever–the perfect match for Batman as both an enemy and a love interest. Not to mention the fact that Selina Kyle has maaaaad style. I’m dying to bring some edgy Catwoman vibes into my wardrobe. You too? Check out the shopping details, after the jump! Keep reading »

Style Inspiration Taken From 4 Very Famous Literary Leading Ladies

Rad Reads Week!
All of The Frisky's book content. Read More »

Movies may offer you your favorite characters served up live on the big screen, but books allow your imagination to run wild. Sure, they describe details of appearance, and mannerism, and style of dress, but it’s up to you to fill in the blanks. The film versions are often disappointing when they don’t live up to the image in your mind’s eye, but sometimes they’re truly spot-on — like these ladies, who happen to have been plucked from the pages of four books and reincarnated onscreen in overwhelmingly effective ways. They all were given distinct style entities in their respective books, but it’s the movies that made them real, and I have to admit that live action did them more than appropriate justice. After the jump, a series of style inspirations straight out of some of my very favorite pages…

Unlikely Style Inspiration: Summer Camp

I’m not a big fan of summer camp. Probably because the one time I went to summer camp every other camper in my cabin got violently ill, I had to deflect projectile vomit with my sleeping bag, the counselors vaguely accused me of poisoning everyone, and–unrelated but just as tragic–my favorite soccer shorts got swept down the river, never to be seen again. Whether your camp memories are positive, negative, or nonexistent, it’s easy to appreciate the laid back style of this summer tradition. Get the camp-y look for yourself, after the jump! TRAILER PARK
See Keira Knightley as "Anna Karenina"...

Confession: I have never read Anna Karenina. Is that, like, a weird thing? Has everybody read it except me? If that’s the case, then don’t spoil the whole thing for me quite yet, because the trailer for the new film adaptation just came out and I am feeling it. I love period films, high society, Russia (represent), Jude Law (!!), and Keira Knightley (!!!), so it’s kind of my dream. (I hope the book makes for an acceptable poolside read, because that’s where I plan on getting my Russian tragedy on this weekend.) It goes without saying that I’m also head over heels with the style aspect of the forthcoming film: lush, heavy fabrics, rich colors, over-the-top opulence, and, rising like a storm cloud over the incredible beauty and passion, a prevailing undercurrent of dread. Oooooh. Check out the trailer for the film (out November 9th) above and, after the jump, my take on some Anna Karenina style inspiration. I do hope you like fur. Keep reading »
