“I just bought my first primer and I was so excited to use it, but then I realized I don’t actually know how to use it. Does it go on before or after my concealer? What about moisturizer? My daily regimen includes sunscreen, concealer, powder, and now primer. Could you help me figure out the order in which I should be putting all these products on my face? Thanks so much!” – Primed For Greatness
Oh, Primed For Greatness, you have so much to learn! But not to worry, you have a lot of potential, too — there are plenty of makeup newbies who begrudge the virtues of a good primer in their makeup routine. Expressing a desire to use one properly is the first step in your journey to becoming a primer pro. Keep reading »
My mom’s getting married next month, and I don’t even know where to start when it comes to finding a “daughter of the bride” dress. Mom is pretty laid back and hasn’t given me much guidance, fashion-wise, because she’s been so busy with wedding planning. Any tips would be much appreciated! –Proud DOB
Congrats to your mom! So, this is a really interesting question, because while there are plenty of resources out there for mother of the bride outfits (all of which seem to involve beaded boleros), “daughter of the bride” is still mostly uncharted fashion territory. Obviously you’re not alone in your quest: so many women decide to remarry later in life that “daughter of the bride” is now a very common role.
It really depends on the formality of your mom’s wedding and if she wants you to wear the same style as her bridesmaids or coordinate with the wedding colors, but in any case, here are a few general guidelines to keep in mind when choosing a DOB dress… Continue reading
Wedding traditions have changed a lot over the years, and many of the hard and fast dos and don’ts of wedding style have fallen by the wayside. After the jump, we answer all your pressing questions about cleavage, pantyhose, the definition of “black tie,” and what color shoes to pair with those pesky navy blue bridesmaid dresses… Continue reading
“How about a summer foundation recommendation for a girl with super sensitive and acne-prone skin? I’ve even tried Garnier BB Cream. Breaks me out like crazy — even if I use my Clarisonic afterwards. Ick!” – Nikki via Facebook

I haven’t worn non-athletic shorts since my age was in the single digits due to my German heritage and stocky lower body. I am not overweight by any means; I just have thighs that love to accumulate muscle and that cupcake I ate yesterday! It would expand my summer wardrobe so much if I had some shorts to pair with all my cute tanks. At this point I’ve stopped even trying shorts on in stores because it can just be a dreadful experience, so having some pointers on the best stores to try could help me out a ton. –Short on Shorts
I totally feel you on this. The short-shorts and skinny jeans trends have not been particularly kind to those of us with larger thighs. Finding a style that actually fits is difficult; finding a pair that doesn’t resemble sausage casing is nearly impossible. The key word, though, is nearly. It takes a little extra work, but your short soulmates are out there, I promise. Here are a few tips to help you find them… Continue reading
I’m going to a wedding in a few weeks and am recycling a dress I love that I’ve worn before (see photo). I want to buy a new pair of nude-colored shoes to wear with it, but would ideally like to find something that I could wear with other, more casual outfits throughout the summer. I want to be able to dance in without killing my feet, so a wedge would be best I think. I’m having a difficult time finding something that isn’t either too formal or too casual, that is streamlined enough for this dress. Help! — Shoeless In NYC
Wedding season is the worst, isn’t it? You buy so many items you can never wear again. But we’re going to stop that right now. Yes we are. Instead, we’re going to make sure you get a few new pieces in your repertoire you can wear all summer long. After the jump, we’ve found some wedges that are wedding-appropriate, but that can also be worn to the office, or up in da clurb, if you’re into that kind of thing (which you totally are).
