I am the proud new owner of Rodna Halter Dress from Anthropologie–which is a store I usually just drool over. This is my first purchase from Anthro and I have to say it was an impulse buy! Now I’m not sure where/how to wear my new favorite dress. It’s a fine dark navy corduroy and the neckline is beautiful. I purchased the size 12 and it makes my short, curvy self look fabulous. The lines look formal, but the fabric and the fact that it has elastic in the sides makes it a bit more casual. Please help! — Mina Keep reading »

I love these tight mini dresses with sleeves that are everywhere right now but I\’m unsure of how to stylize one. What would I wear with a purple one? I want to wear tights because its cold! Could I color block it with some gold tights? But then what kind of shoes? Help!–Lisa

Should you pair a purple body con dress with gold tights? In a word–and I mean this in the nicest way possible–NO. Okay okay, technically you can, but we wouldn’t recommend it, unless you’re performing in a parade, or auditioning for cheer squad. Instead, we’ve paired your purple dress with a completely different color palette–and we hope you’ll like it. As for the shoes, go for something with a not-too-high heel. It’s incredible that shoe makers regularly forget that boots need to fit regular people with regular calves. What are they thinking? As a girl who has just started down the road of personal style, I noticed a few things about my wardrobe. Since high school, most of my outfits were based on thrift-store and band tees. When I began to branch out from that, I avoided all tees and went for the interesting pieces… Then I realized I had nothing basic to pair with those pieces! I have plain tees, sure, but they all look like cheap tees. I’m interested in the types of tees Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been putting out with StyleMint, but I don’t think that I can justify $30 for a tee. Where would you suggest I look to find a decent-quality tee that will flatter my shape as well as my tight budget? — Crystal

As a girl living on the cheap, we can totally feel your pain. Cheap Ts are an absolute must! But! We also wanted to find Ts that were socially responsible, too. So we set about the difficult task of finding affordable T-shirts that were also either fair trade or employing sustainable fabrics. Instead of going for the usual suspects–H&M, Forever 21, American Apparel–we wanted to give you some cool alternative options. In fact, a bunch of the great shirts we sourced are from a company called Alternative Apparel, which has established a series of vendor guidelines and principles it applies to its business. They include no forced labor, no child labor, and fair wages, among others. But enough about the great companies you should support, let’s get to the tees…

Style 911: What Do I Wear With Purple Jeans?

I see you rocking your red J Brand jeans all the time and love how you pull off the look. You have inspired me to buy myself a pair of their colored jeans. I opted for the aubergine pair and am struggling on how to make them more work appropriate. I work in a business casual environment in a position of authority (don’t tell any of the staff that I spend a solid hour a day on The Frisky and other blog loves!). I also am among the youngest employees in the company and by far the youngest manager (I’m 29). Anyway, I would love your take on how to dress up my new jean loves and make them more work appropriate.– Angie

Aubergine is a surprisingly tricky color to wear. And though it’s color wheel opposite is yellow, I wouldn’t recommend you go there. Style 911: “Help Me Find Something To Wear With This Taupe Blazer!”

A few years ago I bought my wardrobe for my first office job and was struggling with what constituted “business casual”. Among other missteps, I bought a rather expensive, taupe, suede blazer from Anne Taylor Loft. I thought it would be super versatile but in the four years I’ve had it I have yet to find a single outfit it looks right with, I think because of the color’s so light. I’m going through my wardrobe and either trying to sell or donate everything that doesn’t work, but it seems like a shame to sell this blazer for so much less than what I paid for it when I never even wore it once. Any ideas?–Leah

Style 911: “I Need The Perfect Dress For A ‘Casual, Elegant’ Beach Wedding!”

Next month, I will be traveling halfway across the world for my boyfriend’s sister’s wedding, and it will be the first time I meet most of his family. It’s a beach wedding, and the only style guidelines I’ve received from my fashion-challenged man are that the wedding is “casual and elegant” (though, frankly, I think it’ll be more elegant than casual). I’m envisioning a drapey, colorful dress (coral? royal blue?) with a defined waist and a plunging neckline, or maybe a beautiful print, though any two of these variables would do. I need to look good! My ideal price point is somewhere below $250. –Smalls

Ahh, boyfriends — not always the best communicators when it comes to letting us know what we should be wearing. Dress too dressy, and you’ll upstage the bride. Not dressy enough, and your boyfriend’s family might think you have no taste. Never fear, there are ways to make this work! First off, I’d recommend steering clear of certain “prom dress-y” fabrics that may come off as too formal, such as satin, lace and taffeta. Stick with a more neutral fabric like linen or cotton to keep things on track. Remember, this is a beach wedding, so you’re going to want to be comfortable. I’m in the market for a jean jacket, but I want to get one that’s from am eco-denim company. I don’t really know whats out there, except for the Gap and J. Crew [ED NOTE: Sorry Amelia!], which I don’t think are known for their organic cotton farming or treatment of kids in their factories. What do you recommend? – Melissa

I didn’t think it would be quite such a major challenge to find a denim jean jacket made from organic cotton, but whoa, milady, it seems the eco-friendly revolution does not include cool denim jackets. While there are plenty of great organic denim lines like Loomstate and Linda Loudermilk Denim, they don’t seem to produce denim for your top half so much. Style 911: “How Do I Create A Work-From-Home Look Without Dressing Like A Slob?”

I just got a new job, and it allows me to work from home. Great, right? But I’m worried that my style is going to devolve into sweatpants and mu-mus. Can you help me find some work-from-home appropriate pieces that will get me motivated? –Jenny

Since all of us Frisky ladies are in a similar work-from-home boat, I can sympathize with your plight. While some are more comfy and productive in sweats (hey, don’t knock it ’til you try it), others work way better dressing like they’re heading to an office for the day. Personally, I fall into the latter category. Everyday, I dress up — not in a suit or anything — but in something work appropriate, so that I can get in the work mindset. And also, in case there’s a fire in my building or some kind of emergency (like, say, someone spots Joseph Gordon-Levitt hanging out in the neighborhood) that forces me out of my apartment, I’m ready to go.
