Jessica Alba braved the frantic crowds at Target to do some last minute holiday shopping, and she looked fabulous (as usual!) in a studded leather jacket, star print jeans, a lime green bag, and a royal blue manicure that I want to copy, like, now. The best part about this outfit? Those sharp spikes on her shoulders aren’t just a trendy fashion statement–they’re an effective defense against the crazy shoppers who are prepared to knock you over for the last Cinderella Barbie. If you’re headed to the mall this weekend, take a cue from Jess and wear studs. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
Sure, it’s fun to play with the studded-everything trend that’s going on right now, but it’s hard to justify the crazy price tags attached to most of these items. That’s why we’re vibing on this animal cruelty-free, chained and studded carry-all that’s so right now, because you won’t feel bad when ladylike is back in and this moves down in closet rank.
Studs have been going strong for a while now, but lately we’ve noticed some innovation on the trend. Instead of sticking with classic pyramid nailheads, big-time labels like Prada and Givenchy are embellishing apparel and accessories with ornaments of different shapes. Carey Mulligan‘s Prada Oscar gown had tiny scissors, utensils, and washers sewn in among sequins, and stars and spirals adorn a pair of amazing Givenchy heels.
These high-fashion items gave us an idea: Why not attach odd-shaped studs to clothes in our own closets? Keep reading »
You’ve seen one of the Olsen twins toting around the $800+ Alexander Wang Coco Mini leather bag with a bottom full of of studs and if you’re anything like me, you were filled with envy at the sight. I’ve swooned over its beauty and contemplated ways to save money — forgo lunch, pick up babysitting jobs instead of going out on the weekends, ask for my Christmas and birthday presents for the next few years all in one — but as of yet, the studded gem has yet to enter into my collection. Now it looks like I have another option. Alexander Wang created a similar version of the Coco Mini in tote shape for his Alexander Wang x Opening Ceremony collaboration. Just like his expensive handbag, the bottom of the tote is full of studs in either silver or gold, but you’ll save a ton of money on this option. Because the best part is that the tote retails for $125, which is slightly more affordable. [Racked] Keep reading »
Rihanna, we love you, but this is way too many trends in one outfit. You’ve covered the lacy look, lingerie as outerwear, harem pants, and of course, your signature spike embellishments. Too much fashion! Let’s exercise some sartorial restraint next time. Keep reading »
Lingerie doesn’t take much material to make, yet for some reason it costs a pretty penny. Take Agent Provocateur’s Heloise Corset. This halter neck corset is made from ribbed duchess satin and lined in black leather, with hand-embellished biker studs and two-inch metal spikes. “Wear it with jeans for an evening out, or for a more daring look wear it with our Nikita brief,” the company suggests. Wear this in public? You might brush up against someone at a bar and accidentally impale her. If the spikes don’t scare you off, the price might: $4,900. Thanks, but we’ll stick to less dangerous (and less expensive) lace lingerie options. [via Luxist] Keep reading »
