Chic On The Street: Pretty In Pink

When Buenos Aires starts to feel like an outdoor sauna, smart porteñas like Gretel Morús manage to stay cool and pretty in pink. Busy lady Gretel, 32, is a freelance fashion designer who is also working on a line of hair accessories. This lady travels—her dress is from Portobello Road in London, her bag was 29 euros from Sara in Cyprus (“My best buy!” she exclaims), her shoes are handmade from Mandarine in Buenos Aires and her sunglasses are Ray-Ban. We also love her pink camo infinity headphones, and (you guessed it!) pink iPod Nano. Keep reading »

Chic On The Street: Buenos Aires Brenda

Spotted leaving Buenos Aires Fashion Week at La Rural: Carolina Hornos channeling “90210″ legend Brenda Walsh in her prime—healthy, slightly rebellious and the very best of early ’90s Americana all in one spunky little package. Vest from Rapsodia, belt from Tabatha, skirt by Complot, and boots by Ricky Sarkany. Like Brenda way back when, Carolina is also a student. She attends the Instituto French in Buenos Aires. Chic On The Street: Buenos Aires Fashion Week!

Let’s talk about friendship. Friends who go to Buenos Aires Fashion Week together, stay together. Or in this case, pray together. (Left to right) Mariana Choo, 27, Christina Hwang, 25, and Sophie Park, 27, met at church and are all originally from Korea. Guess which cutie is the fashion major (Christina, grey dress from Korea), med student (Mariana, Tommy Hilfiger striped sweater) and potter (Sophie vintage turquoise sweater, dress from Forever 21)? Enough with the games. More importantly, we applaud female bonding in the form of these three insisting on being photographed together! Keep reading »

Chic On The Street: Creative Casual

We adore Belen Sozogni’s colorful and free-spirited style. A painter (of course!), she pulls together her pink cardigan, green pants (from an Indian clothing store at Plaza Italia) and patterned purple top (from a store in San Bernado La Costa) in a fresh new way. Hey, we think her idea of comfort — perfect for strolling through a Buenos Aires street market — is a visual treat for us. Keep reading »

It’s The Sartorialist, Except With Really Bad Fashion

You certainly know and love Scott Schuman’s blog, dedicated to the most gorgeous, stylish urban trendsetters in the world. But with all the various street style pics roaming around out there (our own included), these days, good-looking stunners who dress well are a dime a dozen. That’s why we’re loving the SartoriaS**t. Why, what a breath of fresh air! Sure, anyone can put together a “safe” outfit, but the featured subjects of this blog know how to take true fashion risks, like the man above, who wouldn’t be caught dead in a pair of natty old sweats at the airport! Now that’s chic. [SartoriaS**t] Keep reading »

Chic On The Street: L-O-L-A Lola

Buenos Aires’ Palermo Soho is teeming with busy cuties like Lola Torres, who was walking briskly to work when we begged her for five minutes of her time. We’re just totally feeling how that bright strawberry dress warms up her skin tone, not to mention that punchy bag (we even like her delicate calf tattoo). The literal icing on the cake is her asymmetrical hairdo, which kind of makes us want to rock a curly, one-sided bob right now. Lola patiently waited as we barely communicated in halting Castellano, and had to book it to work once the pictures were taken. ¡Muchas Gracias Lola! Keep reading »

Chic On The Street: A Handmade Shirt-Dress

Florencia Broussain, 22, was strolling through the San Telmo antique market when we got a load of her darling shirt-dress. Florencia, a Chilean design major, told us she made it herself. This young lady must love street purchases—she thinks the scarf around her waist is from another antique market, and is certain she bought her shoes and bag from the Plaza Once street fair in Buenos Aires. Chic On The Street: Not Your Ordinary Buenos Aires Tourist

We stopped Anna Crittenden, 23, exiting a shoe store. Initially, she protested about getting her picture taken, saying, “I don’t look very good.” Nonsense! This chick — originally from London and visiting her bro in Argentina–looks like she rolls out of her bed gorgeous and trend savvy—especially with that vintage Chanel bag (from a flea market in Rome), a super worn “I Heart NY” T-shirt from a Manhattan street vendor, shorts from Ebay and Topshop gladiators. Chic On The Street: Nadia’s Statement Pieces

While scoping out the local art scene at Nassau’s own Popop Studios (in the decidedly untouristy Chippingham neighborhood), we spotted Nadia Campbell, 33. More specifically, we were fixated on her tricked-out coral and wood choker. Turns out she made it herself, and works on her own jewelry line in the same building as the gallery. (She was on her way upstairs to crank out more self-professed “island chic” pieces that she sells at Marcie Bond.) Lesson learned: we’ve noticed that hip Bahamian ladies love to match bold statement pieces with basic wardrobe staples like a black top and jeans. Also coveting that apple green leather purse from Hype. Keep reading »

Chic On The Street: Nassau Tomboys

Best buds (left to right) Kachelle Knowles and Khmia Poitier are all about comfort. These College of the Bahamas art majors take all the same classes, and are sometimes on campus until midnight. Which is why they wear pajama bottoms and t-shirts under their coveralls they scored from the Red Cross. They even cop to wearing the same thing three days in a row sometimes. Hey, we’re suckers for don’t-give-a-damn, low-key tomboys. Keep reading »
