Belgian artist Liesbet Bussche has been working on a street art installation project called “Urban Jewellery,” in which she transforms normal city objects and fixtures into large scale jewelry. This giant earring, for example, was just a spherical stone roadblock before Bussche added the brass post and made all of us instinctively reach for our earlobes to make sure this wayward accessory wasn’t ours. “Mad Men”‘s Falling Man Gets Graffitied Up
I’m so accustomed to seeing penises scrawled on Reese Witherspoon’s face on those “This Means War” posters that it’s refreshing to see graffiti that’s not an ode to the male anatomy. Oh, I’m sorry. Are we not supposed to call it “graffiti”? Is it called “street art” because the doodles are on posters for “Mad Men,” which is a classy show? So be it. It’s “Mad Men” street art. Artist Katie Sokoler Keeps The Kid Inside Alive
In-flight magazines almost never hold my attention—more often than not, I lose interest in them once I figure out the crossword puzzle is already completed. After this, I usually find myself flipping through Sky Mall and picking out all the outrageous things I could buy for my cat if I had all the money in the world. But on my most recent trip, I found myself not only intrigued by an article but emotionally affected as well. Statement-Making Art: Liquidated Logos
Will you find yourself in Hong Kong soon-ish? Stop by the Art Statements Gallery for a look-see of French street artist Zev’s wild new exhibition, “Liquidated Logos.” Zev, known for his shadow drawings in the streets of Paris, is “flipping the script” on world-renowned brands such as Coca-Cola and Chanel, and with this show is broadening his scope to include fashion icon Louis Vuitton. Using his trademark technique of “liquidation,” he reinterprets Takashi Murakami’s Louis Vuitton pattern, Chanel’s famous double “C” logo and the arches of Mickey D’s, among others. (To drum up some press for the opening, Zev took to the streets of labels-obsessed Hong Kong, painting a “liquidated” Chanel logo atop the flagship Giorgio Armani store to “reflect the war of brands.” He was arrested and Armani, as you may have guessed, was not all that pleased, mostly because the limestone store facade soaked up the black paint, making it pretty impossible to remove the errant logo.)
