This Stella McCartney dress is so typical of the designer in that at first glance it’s totally fine, even good, but upon further inspection something is just off. And once you see it there’s no turning back. For me, it’s the proportions — the fitted suit-like top becomes a big, tulip-shaped (faux leather) balloon skirt with a seriously awkward length that makes Naomi Watts seem like she has a normal-sized torso and the legs of a munchkin. I can’t pinpoint it, but there is something about the unflattering below-the-knee cut and ankle booties that I find very unsettling. I mean, Naomi looks amazing, and she’s wearing the look as well as it can be worn, but there is something fundamentally wrong at play here. What do you think?
Kate Middleton has gotten a lot of flack for her somewhat staid royal dress sense. William’s bride hasn’t made a sartorial misstep to date, but she definitely tends to go for a lot of very safe, very modest looks that are, well, kind of yawn-inducing. They aren’t necessarily the wrong choices — she does have a certain regality to uphold, and have you seen some of the busted polyester shit Beatrice and Eugenie wear? — but I think Kate has wonderful taste and really could grow into the style icon lot she’s been prematurely dealt. I’ll admit, I covertly cross my fingers whenever she makes a formal appearance in hopes that she’ll step out in a seriously jaw-dropping (yet palace-appropriate) look this time … and I think we’re getting closer! Stella McCartney’s designs occasionally leave me lukewarm, but this simple short-sleeved azure shift with its nipped-in waist is flawless on Kate, and a promising sign of fashion “risks” (I use that term lightly) to come. But seriously, I am still dying — dying — to see the duchess in an Elie Saab creation. I’ll send her an email with the address to his London store just in case. [Photo: FameFlynet]
“Damsels In Distress” actress Greta Gerwig wore this cute ensemble at this week’s dinner to honor Stella McCartney, and predictably, she wore lots of Stella. Like, take her Stella McCartney striped floral top — it retails for nearly $400. Crazy, right? So we found a waaaaaaaaaaay less expensive version of her tee — and her whole outfit. Get the look after the jump!

Anne Hathaway — she’s honestly never been my fave. But here, at the Stella McCartney Spring 2012 presentation dinner held last night in New York, she looked the epitome of casual chic. I’d never think to pair a cream suit with a white shirt, but somehow it works here. What do you think?
Kristen Stewart has become somewhat of an unwilling fashion plate in the past few years, what with her red carpet ubiquity and relationship with Balenciaga, but I don’t always agree with her sartorial choices. She’s never photographed off-duty in anything but Converse, jeans, and a T-shirt, so I often find her event looks kind of contrived given that she seems so uncomfortable, like she has no idea why she’s where she is, wearing whatever she’s wearing. I will give her credit, though: she actually cracked a smile at this week’s LA screening of “Snow White And The Huntsman,” no small feat for a girl who usually looks like she’s about to cry. Nevertheless, I feel terribly ambivalent about the Stella McCartney ensemble she went for. A high, buttoned neck like this is flattering on next to nobody, but I think it could have worked on Kristen had she skipped the stuffy jacket. She looked fabulous at all of her Cannes appearances and while I prefer to see her in those opulent dresses with her hair down, this is probably the kind of outfit she feels more “herself” in, and I can’t argue with that. What do you think: is Kristen rocking this buttoned-up, slightly androgynous look?
When I first saw these Stella McCartney panties, I thought I was staring at pubic hair sculpted in the shape of the Weezer logo. It was a very confusing moment for me. [$52, Revolve Clothing]
This past weekend, celebs gathered to watch the new Paul McCartney video, “My Valentine,” hosted by Sir Paul and his daughter Stella. This being Hollywood, practically everybody turned out in designer duds (mostly made by Stella herself), but some carried the look off better than others. Who shone and who totally stunk it up? Click through to find out.
Charlize Theron is one of my top lady crushes, and I know I’m not alone: she’s fierce, gorgeous, acerbically hilarious, and even a self-declared bitch, which is a quality I greatly value in a human being. Most importantly, Charlize has a great sartorial sense with nary a fashion fail to be found. I don’t always love Stella McCartney’s designs (ahem, Rihanna’s onesie) but I’m head over heels for the intriguing cobalt frock Charlize chose for the Parisian premiere of her new film “Prometheus,” directed by Ridley Scott. It’s a simple dress in style and shape, but the Baroque embossing is stunningly intricate and fits the regal actress (and new mom) like an especially seductive glove. Would it be fitting to say j’adore?
Anna Dello Russo is an editor-at-large and creative consultant for Vogue Japan. But she’s probably best known for her wild costumery and show-stopping hats. Though she’s often seated front row during fashion week, it’s her outlandish outfits that have landed her time and again on style blogs. And Yoox.com even did a T-shirt collaboration featuring some of Dello Russo’s crazier looks last year. We’ve selected one of Dello Russo’s less wild outfits — worn to last week’s Stella McCartney RTW show — to steal. We love how she does so much with a fairly simple palette of black, white and gold. Check out our steal after the jump.

Paul McCartney famously sang, “Will you still love me when I’m 64?” Well, he’s technically 69, but 51-year-old Nancy Shevell just answered “I do!” McCartney married his third wife this weekend in London following four years of courtship. “I feel married,” McCartney told reporters after the ceremony. “I feel absolutely wonderful.” Aww, cute. After losing first wife Linda to cancer in 1998, McCartney had a tumultuous second marriage to Heather Mills, with whom he has a daughter, Beatrice (she served as flower girl!). Shevell and McCartney met in 2007 and the two became engaged in May. So, who is this woman feeling up on our favorite Beatle? The goods are after the jump … Keep reading »
