Some Day Her Prince Will Come

Now that Disney has purchased LucasFilm, Princess Leia has got to get with the program on that whole Disney princess thing. Lucky for Leia, the other Disney princesses are all happy to teach her how to be a pretty, pretty princess and wait quietly by until her prince comes to save her. In song, of course.

High fashion often meets unrelated subjects — cats, for instance — so it technically shouldn’t come as a surprise that designer and illustrator John Woo has created a series of drawings that merges, of all things, characters from Star Wars with some of fashion’s finest. I’m not what you would call a fan of the saga, so I may not be able to fully appreciate the nuances of the series, but I’m still pretty damn entertained (not to mention impressed) by the artist’s depictions. Hello, Jar Jar Binks sporting Margiela streetwear swag? Darth Vader in a Band of Outsiders suit jacket and cuffed khakis? What’s not to love? [The Gloss]

So this is what the Olsen twins — Mary-Kate and Ashley — apparently think constitutes a Halloween costume. The pair dressed up — with venti latte cups-as-light-sabers in tow — as part of a new Halloween-ie video for their T-shirt company Stylemint. Even with the helmets on, the sisters manage to convey a languid boredom and over-it-ness that we’ve come to expect from them. Remember, you can never be too rich, too thin, or too Vader-y. The Daily Ovulation: Little Boy Learns Who Luke Skywalker’s Father Is

Watch Video

My first thought when I saw this adorable video of a little boy watching “The Empire Strikes Back” and learning that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s dad: Is this an old home movie of John DeVore as a kid? Alas, it is not, but it might as well be. Looks kind of like him and I’m pretty sure John felt just as shocked. [i09]

I’m just warning you: Your boyfriend is most definitely going to beg you to buy him this fancy new Star Wars x A Bathing Ape collaboration shirt. Especially if he once fancied himself as cool as Han Solo. Just let him know it’s going to be near impossible to get — unless he’s planning on heading to Japan in mid-September. The shirt’s only available at BAPE’s Harajuku store, starting September 17. [Definitive Touch] Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: May The Force Be With You, Katie!

  • A first grader named Katie was made fun of by the boys at her school for owning a “Star Wars” water bottle. Now there’s a Twitter hashtag for #MayTheForceBeWithKatie and, one would hope, a squad of Storm Troopers showing up at those boys’ front doors. (Thanks, commenter Vivster, for the heads-up!) • “Real Housewives” Bethenny Frankel is hawking a pink “Future SkinnyGirl” onesie for babies on CafePress. I get that “SkinnyGirl” is her brand. But, seriously, encouraging your baby girl to stay skinny?! What happens if Bethanny’s baby Bryn grows up naturally thicker than her famously svelte mommy? [Styleite]
  • A passage of Sarah Palin’s latest book, America By Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag, criticizes Michelle Obama for saying she hadn’t felt proud of her country, but then goes on to drag racial tensions into it. “In retrospect, I guess this shouldn’t surprise us, since both of them spent almost two decades in the pews of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s church listening to his rants against America and white people,” Palin wrote. Holy race-baiting! [Huffington Post]
