As if James Deen hasn’t brought enough memorable, ahem, treats to this world already, he is now presenting us with what he refers to as “the Deenut” or “the bronut.” In my mind, nothing sounded more amazing than a Deen-themed donut … until I discovered the ingredients. With a range of flavors like Sour Patch Kid, Sriracha, Beer, Dorito, and Coffee, I’m not sure I want to try them anytime soon. Keep reading »
Unpopular opinion: I don’t like Sriracha. Spicy things are just not my jam. That said, I can respect the fine art that is a quality hot sauce, and it’s clear that nothing satisfies quite like Sriracha does. The American Chemical Society (yes, that’s a thing) agrees and created this nifty little video breaking down the science that goes into making this beloved condiment so awesome. Hint: the burn of the sauce releases endorphins and creates a delicious dance of pain and pleasure in your mouth. (Hey, get your mind out of the gutter) The scientists in the video explain the technicalities of it in much more detail, so check it out while I give sriracha one more shot at winning over my taste buds. We came, we saw, we ate a lot of chips and drank a lot of wine. It’s National Potato Chip Day, and to celebrate our favorite snack food, we’ve created this video pairing the three new chip flavors with three different kinds of wine. At 11:00 in the morning. This was not a good idea.
I must admit, I felt pretty cool when Lay’s reached out to me and asked if we wanted to celebrate National Potato Chip Day (March 14) with them. We, collectively, are huge fans of snacking, if you couldn’t tell, and Lays makes snacks. Snacks we maybe binge eat in private. But anyway! We came up with a very important assignment for them — give us the proper beverages to pair with the brand’s three new eater-suggested flavors — Sriracha, Chicken & Waffles and Cheesy Garlic Bread. Amazingly, Executive Research Chef for Frito-Lay, Stephen Kalil, complied, and made us the above video. Tomorrow, we’ll be posting our very own flavor taste test (along with an “adult beverages” pairing) but for now, enjoy drink pairings straight from the horse’s mouth!
