This Alexander Wang eyelet suit costs hundreds more than my wedding dress! White eyelet never goes out of style, but there is no way in hell I would spend $1,000+ on a white suit. I’d have to wear a plastic poncho to protect the damn outfit from THE WORLD! I saw “Can’t Buy Me Love”! (Okay, so that was white leather, but still.) I’m getting anxiety just thinking about it. This eyelet tank and pencil skirt from Ann Taylor is 75 percent cheaper, making it a safer (on your wallet) bet for your summer functions.

Must Haves: 10 Pretty Pairs Of Spring-Ready Shorts

Shorts are a standard come the warm weather, but wearing denim cutoffs every day can get old fast. Upgrading to a more put-together lace or patterned pair brings your casual summer look to the next level — and even better, if your office is on the laid-back side, these may just fit the bill. These 10 options are reasonably priced and ready to be worn all summer long…

Spring Must Haves: 10 Perfect Pairs Of Printed Jeans

Like an amazing piece of statement jewelry, a pair of printed jeans takes a basic look and turns it into something special. White tee? Grey sweatshirt? Sneakers? Add colorful printed denim and you’ve got a serious Outfit (yes, with a capital O) on your hands. It’s nigh summer, which makes it the perfect time to recruit one of these 10 show-stopping pairs into your springtime wardrobe…

Must Haves: 10 Pairs Of Badass Black Spring Shoes (Under $200!)

I subscribe to the style theory of “all black everything.” I’m pretty religious about it most of the year, but come summer, my wardrobe tends to lighten up. (Maybe some dark grey?) My shoes, on the other hand, are nothin’ but black. Black boots, black sandals, black heels — why buy anything else? Black is classic, goes with everything, never gets dirty, and black leather shoes last for years. They’re practically an investment, but that doesn’t mean you should have to cash out over $200 for a solid pair of cool-ass black sandals. Check out these 10 pairs, and wonder why you ever thought it would be a good idea to buy something in beige suede.

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that Rachel Roy has a pretty damn good grasp on style — the fashion fixture is always right on trend without becoming a victim of it. Naturally, the same could be said of our Amelia, who totally beat Rachel to the chambray shirt, yellow pants one-two punch. Damn right! Anyway, this is a killer look on both ladies and in both variations, and I’d bet money on the fact that some of you want to try it out, too. I maintain that I absolutely could not pull this off, so I’m really, really jealous of those who can. Who knows? Maybe I’ll give it a shot one of these days… Snag Rachel’s chic, breezy style (and, by proxy, a little bit of Amelia’s too) after the jump. Sidenote: pair this outfit with a super-bright lipstick for a ballsy spring look that really pops. Keep reading »

Fashion Week Breakdown: Yummy Colors, Fun Prints & Nekkid Shoulders At BCBG

bcbg ss12 g1 jpg
This morning, on my way to work at the bright-eyed hour of 8 a.m., I was joined in the elevator by one of the long and lithe fashion models that live in my apartment building. I don’t see them that often, as they tend to keep odder hours than my usual nine-to-five. I wonder why she’s up to early? I wondered, covertly starring (up) at her as the floors ticked downward. Her face was scrubbed free of makeup and she was thumbing through an appointment book. Oh wait! Duh. It’s fashion week, I recalled. I had blocked it out sort of. I very much love clothes, but I am not particularly fond of discussing them in great depth, which is why I “read” Luckylike a picture book. And that is exactly how we are going to be presenting some of the Spring/Summer 2012 collections being shown at New York Fashion Week; pithy intros plus photos of pretty clothes! First up is BCBG, a line that is actually kind of sort of affordable for us non-rich types. Three things I love about this collection:

        1. The colors: Lime! Lemonade! Cerulean! (I think?)
        1. The prints: The Missoni-esque stripes are lovely, but I’m especially obsessed with the mix of more “ethnic” prints with architectural color-blocking.
        1. The open shoulders: I’m sorry, but who doesn’t have gorgeous shoulders? This trend is something I can get behind because it would flatter everyone.

That, my friends, is as “fashion talk-y” as I am going to get today. Click onward to see a bunch of the looks from the BCBG Spring/Summer 2012 runway show!

Take It To The Max

Let me tell you a secret: sometimes, when I am feeling supremely lazy, I will wear a maxi dress all day long and then sleep in it that night. I mean, a maxi dress is essentially just a nice-ish looking nightgown, so can you blame me? Well, one maxi dress I won’t be wearing to bed this spring is this slightly dressier version from Gap. Available exclusively online, I love the subtle grey and cream print, racer back, and sexy keyhole in the front. Perfect worn with simple flats during the day and colorful wedges at night, throwing on a fitted denim jacket to keep warm. I’ll figure out my PJ situation later.

Designer-Inspired Stacked Heels At A Pauper’s Price

Take a good look at this shoe. It is reminiscent of a number of different designer heels currently being featured in magazines and sold at expensive retailers like Bloomingdale’s and Shopbop. Amazingly, however, these stacked heeled sandals — which would look so cute with everything from skinny jeans to a floaty sundress — are from Target’s Mossimo brand and cost less than a hardcover book, a sushi dinner, and a date night at the movies. They are so cute and affordable that not buying them would be kind of silly. And you’re not silly are you? No. No you’re not. We’re not either. We’ll take one in each color.

Style Stealer: Eva Longoria’s Monochromatic Cool

In some ways, Eva Longoria’s outfit is nothing to crow about. The color palette is almost dishwater-y, to be honest, yet somehow it’s still effortlessly chic. On the off chance that it wouldn’t look so great on a mere mortal, here’s how to get the look far more affordably… Keep reading »
