Jason Wu's Guerrilla Ad Campaign

If you happen to see some photos of seriously refined, flawlessly groomed women in ladylike ’50s-style dresses thrown up on buildings and street signs around Manhattan, don’t be alarmed — it’s just Jason Wu’s latest ad campaign. The designer will forgo the traditional direction in favor of going guerrilla with his spring 2012 collection. Photographed by Willy Vanderperre, “wild postings” of ads like the one shown above are set to occur in our fair city. I love the idea of an artsier, more spontaneous take on marketing, and it’s a foolproof way to grab everyone’s attention. It reminds me of Alexander Wang’s similar guerrilla campaign back in July — I suppose great minds, and great designers, think alike. [Racked NY]

Valentino’s Spring Campaign, All Ladylike and Such

Bette Franke, Maud Welzen, Fei Fei Sun, and Zuzanna Bijoch star in this gorgeous ad for Valentino’s Spring 2012 collection, as shot by fine art photographer Deborah Turbeville. These dresses — and the look of the shoot — remind me of Gustav Klimt’s reform dresses, mixed with classic buttoned-up Victorian elegance. Which is to say I want to wear all of them.

Paco Rabanne’s Alien Love Child

I’ve long associated Spanish designer Paco Rabanne with ’80s sportswear designs, though he’s had a storied history as a costumer for outlandish films like “Barbarella,” too. The line is now helmed by designer Manish Arora, who channeled Rabanne’s more extravagant roots. Using his couture sensibility, he created other-wordly chic aliens. Yes, you can invade our planet anytime. See the full collection here.

Sometimes you’re like, “Oh dang, I’m so over wearing cotton and silk and such. Why can’t someone just up the ante a bit?” And then designer Charlie Le Mindu goes and makes a ton of garments out of frickin’ Minx fake nails. Like, thousands of them! Oh hello! We like! We like so much! (Though we can’t imagine you’d ever be able to sit down and get a manicure — heh heh — in a dress like this.) Lee Press-Ons, eat your heart out. [MTV Style]

Lady Gaga Does Her Best “Derelicte”

Watch Video

Real talk: This Lady Gaga video for Thierry Mugler’s Spring 2012 collection is so out of control, so twitchy, and outrageously Le Fashion Video that it has to have been inspired by Mugato’s Derelicte collection. I mean it’s straight outta “Zoolander,” right? Gaga plays a weird diamond-toothed rave kid with a biiiiiiiit of a Mugler obsesh. [YouTube]

Model Inner Monologue: Dazed And Confused

Chris Benz told reporters that his Spring 2012 collection was inspired by the madness induced by this summer’s heat wave. This model’s pose at the presentation really drove that point home, don’t you think? See the whole collection here. Keep reading »

Style Stealer: Christian Siriano’s Chartreuse Runway Look

“Project Runway” alum Christian Siriano’s Spring 2012 collection was all about balancing bright colors with soft, neutral palettes (Jill Stuart did a similar thing). We love the unexpected color combinations, and did our best to recreate Siriano’s style. Take a look after the jump. Keep reading »

Model Inner Monologue: A Socky Situation

As much as we wanted to like the Creatures of the Wind collection, the flat, dowdy presentation of the clothing, combined with the sullen faces of the models left a lot to be desired. Guys, it’s fashion, not a Soviet gulag! Check out the full collection here. Keep reading »
