Fashion Week Breakdown: Yummy Colors, Fun Prints & Nekkid Shoulders At BCBG

bcbg ss12 g1 jpg
This morning, on my way to work at the bright-eyed hour of 8 a.m., I was joined in the elevator by one of the long and lithe fashion models that live in my apartment building. I don’t see them that often, as they tend to keep odder hours than my usual nine-to-five. I wonder why she’s up to early? I wondered, covertly starring (up) at her as the floors ticked downward. Her face was scrubbed free of makeup and she was thumbing through an appointment book. Oh wait! Duh. It’s fashion week, I recalled. I had blocked it out sort of. I very much love clothes, but I am not particularly fond of discussing them in great depth, which is why I “read” Luckylike a picture book. And that is exactly how we are going to be presenting some of the Spring/Summer 2012 collections being shown at New York Fashion Week; pithy intros plus photos of pretty clothes! First up is BCBG, a line that is actually kind of sort of affordable for us non-rich types. Three things I love about this collection:

        1. The colors: Lime! Lemonade! Cerulean! (I think?)
        1. The prints: The Missoni-esque stripes are lovely, but I’m especially obsessed with the mix of more “ethnic” prints with architectural color-blocking.
        1. The open shoulders: I’m sorry, but who doesn’t have gorgeous shoulders? This trend is something I can get behind because it would flatter everyone.

That, my friends, is as “fashion talk-y” as I am going to get today. Click onward to see a bunch of the looks from the BCBG Spring/Summer 2012 runway show!

Take It To The Max

Let me tell you a secret: sometimes, when I am feeling supremely lazy, I will wear a maxi dress all day long and then sleep in it that night. I mean, a maxi dress is essentially just a nice-ish looking nightgown, so can you blame me? Well, one maxi dress I won’t be wearing to bed this spring is this slightly dressier version from Gap. Available exclusively online, I love the subtle grey and cream print, racer back, and sexy keyhole in the front. Perfect worn with simple flats during the day and colorful wedges at night, throwing on a fitted denim jacket to keep warm. I’ll figure out my PJ situation later.

Designer-Inspired Stacked Heels At A Pauper’s Price

Take a good look at this shoe. It is reminiscent of a number of different designer heels currently being featured in magazines and sold at expensive retailers like Bloomingdale’s and Shopbop. Amazingly, however, these stacked heeled sandals — which would look so cute with everything from skinny jeans to a floaty sundress — are from Target’s Mossimo brand and cost less than a hardcover book, a sushi dinner, and a date night at the movies. They are so cute and affordable that not buying them would be kind of silly. And you’re not silly are you? No. No you’re not. We’re not either. We’ll take one in each color.

Style Stealer: Eva Longoria’s Monochromatic Cool

In some ways, Eva Longoria’s outfit is nothing to crow about. The color palette is almost dishwater-y, to be honest, yet somehow it’s still effortlessly chic. On the off chance that it wouldn’t look so great on a mere mortal, here’s how to get the look far more affordably… Keep reading »

Crave: Lulu’s Pleated Dress

This might be the perfect spring dress. The bright turquoise is fun and casual, and the interesting pleat detail fancifies the frock for cocktail parties. The origami bodice is supported by interior boning, which is great for bigger-chested ladies who know that strapless bras don’t always do the trick. As an added plus, the sash at the waist adds a body-flattering detail. While this ladylike strapless number looks like the type of high-end fashion Scarlett Johansson would sport on the red carpet, we couldn’t be more stoked about the price: $47.
