Guys Reveal The Most Embarrassing Songs On Their iPods

The digital age leaves little room for deniability.

Your iPod is your iPod, and so are the songs on it. Which is great, except for those moments when a friend picks up your device and scrolls through to reveal a few of your awful, embarrassing secrets. Or worse, if someone decides to plug your iPod into a set of speakers at a party.

With that in mind, Asylum decided to poll its writers with the question: Which song(s) or artist in your iPod would you be most embarrassed by if a friend found it in a playlist? Read more Keep reading »

A Bite Of The “New Moon” Soundtrack From Death Cab For Cutie

What could make Seth Cohen and every teenage girl in America squeal at equally loud decibel levels? The fact that a one-minute-and-45-second snippet of the first single from the “New Moon” soundtrack, Death Cab For Cutie’s “Meet Me On The Equinox,” is now available online. The movie doesn’t open until November 20, but if you pre-order the soundtrack now, you can be one of the first to download the whole song during the MTV Video Music Awards this weekend. Judging from the snippet, the song has the perfect wistful vampy vibe. We’re sure the rest of the soundtrack will be dope as well since it’s curated by music director Alexandra Patsavas, the lady who made “The O.C.” and “Twilight” soundtracks so addictive. Rumor has it that Thom Yorke and Kings of Leon will also have ditties on the album. [MTV] Keep reading »

Soundtrack To The DNC: Hillary Clinton’s Dream Playlist

Politicians aren’t exactly known for having musical taste, but you would expect the people who throw big events like, I dunno, the Democratic National Convention, would do a better job of picking cool music to introduce some of their most important speakers. That’s why it struck me as an odd choice to have Hillary Clinton walk onto the stage two nights ago to the blaring accompaniment of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way?”, “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks, and “American Girl” by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Now, I have nothing against the latter two songs (I could take or leave Lenny), but the message of the songs themselves are predictable and a bit on the wimpy side considering the strength of Hillary’s campaign. That’s why we put together our own list of dream songs that should have played background to Hillary’s big moment. That list, plus what we hope Barack Obama will walk out to tonight, after the jump! We’ve Still Got It All On Tape

Nothing says love like the hum of an analog mix tape crackling through the songs you like to make out to. Sigh. You know it’s hot and heavy when a dude takes the time to tape sounds to seduce you. Like the frail technology that can get easy chewed up by a player, most relationships circa the end of the 20th century didn’t make it past the year 2000. However, a few time capsule mix tape relics have survived and their owners are sharing the love and their stories on Cassettefrommyex.com. Contributors include Claudia Gonson from The Magnetic Fields and Jason Bitner, the co-founder of Found Magazine. You can stream their soundtracks straight from the site, boom box not necessary.
