Beyonce is awesome, yeah, yeah, but I happen to have a way bigger girl crush on her younger sister Solange. I loved her album Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams, but it didn’t get nearly as much attention as, say, Beyonce’s last outfit change. A shame, really. Well, Solange is back with a new song called “Losing You,” and it was so worth the wait. The song’s smooth, alt-pop airiness perfectly showcases Solange’s vocals, while the video, featuring Solange and her friends hanging out with Cape Town’s Gentleman of Baconogo, is just straight up stylish. I still love you Beyonce, but damn if it isn’t time for Solange to get her due.
Last night, Tiffany’s held a party hosted by photographers Scott Schuman and Garance Dore. The party was DJed by Beyonce’s little sister Solange. So far, sounds like every other semi-famous people party, right? Well, except that the PR company that put on the event — some company called Epic Group — was apparently a mite bit concerned that the soiree would be too packed. So, the day of the party, they sent out the following missive…

Now that older sister Beyonce is all busy with her baby Blue Ivy (can’t even with that name), it’s time for younger sis Solange to break out of her shadow. That’s why we think it’s no coincidence that the same weekend that Bey-Z finally had their baby, Solange announced she’d signed with Next Model Management. “Artistic expression is invaluable to me in all walks of my career and I am so excited to continue to develop this path along such an amazing team at Next Model Management. I feel right at home working with people who have worked beside such creative forces in the world.” Oh sure, whatever Solange. Just take a little bit of that spotlight back for yourself. We won’t tell anyone. [FashionIndie]
Siblings — we’ve all got ‘em! Well, most of us at least. I don’t know if you know this, but even celebrities have siblings. In fact, some of our favorite female celebrities happen to have equally cool sisters. They’re not always equal in fame quotient, but that’s okay — they make up for it in other ways.
Finally, we get a peek at Solange‘s ads for makeup brand Rimmel London. Last year, we reported that Rimmel signed both Zooey Deschanel and Solange to be spokeswomen of the brand. We were pleased to see Zooey’s unconventional beauty gracing magazine pages (well, except for this Photoshop fail), but I kept wondering when Solange would begin representing the makeup brand. The wait appears to be over, if these beauty images, which recently surfaced without explanation, are any indication. Now we get to see Solange giving good hair as a spokeswoman for Carol’s Daughter and good face for Rimmel London. [Racked] Keep reading »
Solange‘s ensemble for the Elle Women in Music concert in Hollywood wasn’t met with the best reception. I’m sure her bralette top has something to do with that. However, the ’70s feel of the high-waist pants, long cardigan, and floppy hat is right in step with the sophisticated bohemian vibe this season. Solange’s look would be completely wearable with a more substantial yet sexy top. See how you can recreate the look after the jump. Keep reading »
Solange was one of a hundred guests invited to view Tom Ford’s return to womenswear last night. While Tom brought the theatrics with his spring 2011 collection, Solange kept her look refined yet sassy; we’re really loving the sheen and fit of her cigarette pants, as well as her turban. And you know this shoe fetishist kept her footwear on point! This is an easy look to add to your reserves. Find out how after the jump. Keep reading »
OK, I seriously have to recognize my slight, non-stalker-ish obsession with Solange. As I’m writing this, I’m totally vibing to the original lullaby she performed on an episode of NIck Jr.’s “Yo Gabba Gabba” that aired today. “Momma Loves Baby” is my favorite song of the day. I think Solange taped this awhile ago because she’s had a pic from the set of the TV show as the background of her Twitter page for a month or so. I’m really feeling her fun Flintstones-inspired outfit, too. Keep reading »
We’re slightly obsessed with both Solange and Zooey Deschanel, so you know we let out a squeal when we learned that affordable cosmetics line Rimmel London has signed them to be spokeswomen. Rimmel, which has also added Puerto Rican model Alejandra Ramos Munoz to the roster, is hoping their move to include more diverse women in their ads will increase the brand’s appeal in Asia and South America. “At a time of extraordinary worldwide growth for the brand, these three strong, successful and uniquely beautiful women will help ensure that Rimmel London’s image continues to be modern and globally relevant,” said Renato Semerari, President of Coty Beauty, which owns Rimmel. These three unconventional beauties join Kate Moss, Georgia Jagger, and Coca Rocha as Rimmel spokeswomen. Never have we been so excited for an ad campaign. [Stylelist, MTV] Keep reading »
“Just realizing ive never seen a black girl on the COVER of @NylonMag and its one of my fave mag’s EVER! Can we fix that please?”
– Solange Knowles on Nylon, which hasn’t put a woman of color on the cover since 2003 cover girl, Lil’ Kim. That’s worse than Vogue, y’all. [Jezebel] Keep reading »
