Check Out The First Promotional Photo Of The Cast Of Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring”

“The Bling Ring” has sounded promising since news first relayed that Sofia Coppola would be adapting the story for the silver screen. It goes something like this: a band of spoiled, fame-obsessed Hollywood teenagers break into the homes of stars like Orlando Bloom and Paris Hilton. It’s a startling (and, as you’ll recall, true) tale of celebrity, greed, and youth in the age of the Internet, which the teens used to track down the whereabouts of their high-profile victims. The first photo of the cast hit the web this week via Entertainment Weekly, and I must say, they’ve styled the naughty mid-aughties kids to a T: Emma Watson looks every bit the young, wealthy heathen, replete with a fur vest and, naturally, the requisite how-old-are-you-why-do-you-have-that Birkin bag. The rest of the cast is spot-on, too: attractive, expensively-dressed, big iced coffees, no-soul-behind-my-Dior-sunglasses stares … yeah, I’m really looking forward to this movie. It’s too bad it won’t be in theaters until next year. [Crushable]

Quickies: Michele Bachmann Loves White People UPDATE: It’s A Hoax!

  • Leave it to Rep. Michele Bachmann to yell “Who loves white people?” at a campaign stop. Fortunately, she was only referring to the White People Soul Band, a group that performed there. She probably shouldn’t appear with musicians that sound like White Power bands, though. (Just for the record, they’re not.) [BuzzFeed] UPDATE: It has come to our attention that this Michele Bachmann video is a hoax. The video was edited to make it sound like she says “Who loves white people” when in fact she appears to have said “Who loves wet people” before talking about the rain. She was not, in fact, referring to “White People” as the band that played before her (although there is a band called White People Soul Band). My apologies for not being aware the Bachmann vid was a hoax sooner. [Gawker]

  • Boneheads on Twitter went after Demi Lovato for her recent weight gain and the singer/actress snapped back with, “That’s what happens when you get out of treatment for an EATING DISORDER.” Ten points to Demi! [ONTD]

Sofia Coppola’s Purple Wedding Wonder

Over the weekend Sofia Coppola married longtime boyfriend and baby daddy Thomas Mars, frontman of the band Phoenix. But rather than go for the traditional white wedding thing, Coppola said “I do” in a lavender Azzedine Alaïa gown, custom-made by the designer. What do you think of her non-traditional look? Would you — or did you — get married in a colorful dress? [People] Keep reading »

Style Stealer: Sofia Coppola’s Laid Back Cool

Sofia Coppola kind of has it all: the insanely cool career; the rock star husband; the Hollywood royalty background. And oh, she looks way stylish and cool all the time. We saw her outfit at the “Meek’s Cutoff” screening and had to have it. So without further ado, we give you Sofia’s superb style, after the jump! Keep reading »

Let’s Hope Sofia Coppola’s New Movie Isn’t As Boring As Her Louis Vuitton Line

Sofia Coppola‘s new film, “Somewhere,” is set to debut at the Venice Film Festival next week (sorry if you weren’t invited—you’ll have to wait for the December release date). We’re itching to see it because, no matter the story line, Sofia’s work is usually a visual playground of nostalgic places, saccharine candy colors, and compelling landscapes. We’re surprised, however, to see a new example from her decidedly un-creative work with Louis Vuitton. Keep reading »

Sofia Coppola To Direct New Dior Fragrance Commercial?

Rumor has it that Sofia Coppola will be directing another Dior fragrance commercial, this time starring Natalie Portman, Dior Parfum’s new ambassador. Those of you who obsessed over Coppola’s last Dior commercial (above), like we did, will be a little bit thrilled about this news. Coppola and Portman were both spotted filming in Paris over the weekend — albeit at different locations — giving us reason to believe that the rumors are true and we’re about to have a new favorite commercial. Remember When Sofia Coppola Designed Clothes?

Here’s a blast from the past—a 1995 interview with Sofia Coppola, back when she was designing her clothing line, Milk Fed. For those of you who don’t remember (or if this was before your time!), Ms. Coppola began Milk Fed in 1994, aiming to design simple, affordable pieces with just enough character. From what we gather now, Milk Fed is sold only in Japan, and it’s unclear whether Coppola still designs it (somehow we doubt this, and unfortunately, we don’t read Japanese). Either way, check out this video for some classic ’90s fashion inspiration that ignores acid wash and goes straight to artsy silhouettes. [YouTube] Keep reading »

“Somewhere”: Trailer For The Next Sofia Coppola Movie To Love

The “Lost In Translation”, “Marie Antoinette”, and “Virgin Suicides” director/screenwriter Sofia Coppola has polished off another gem: “Somewhere.” Stephen Dorff plays a disaffected A-list actor, Elle Fanning is his 11-year-old daughter, and Phoenix did the score. Dang, I would have paid $12 to see the trailer alone! Dec. 22 cannot come soon enough. Keep reading »

Shun, Shag, Or Marry: The Possible Directors For “Breaking Dawn”

The final “Twilight ” movie, “Breaking Dawn,” is still in the beginning stages. But Summit is considering three big-deal directors to take it on—Sofia Coppola (“Lost in Translation”), Gus Van Sant (“Milk”), and Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls”). No decision will be made until the directors have a chance to read an outline of the screenplay. It’s interesting to imagine how each of these Hollywood heavyweights would handle the vampy love and (eek!) Bella’s birthing scene. And because we can’t keep our opinions to ourselves, we just have to tell you which directors we’d shun, shug, or marry. [EW] Keep reading »
