Remember When Sofia Coppola Designed Clothes?

Here’s a blast from the past—a 1995 interview with Sofia Coppola, back when she was designing her clothing line, Milk Fed. For those of you who don’t remember (or if this was before your time!), Ms. Coppola began Milk Fed in 1994, aiming to design simple, affordable pieces with just enough character. From what we gather now, Milk Fed is sold only in Japan, and it’s unclear whether Coppola still designs it (somehow we doubt this, and unfortunately, we don’t read Japanese). Either way, check out this video for some classic ’90s fashion inspiration that ignores acid wash and goes straight to artsy silhouettes. [YouTube] Keep reading »

“Somewhere”: Trailer For The Next Sofia Coppola Movie To Love

The “Lost In Translation”, “Marie Antoinette”, and “Virgin Suicides” director/screenwriter Sofia Coppola has polished off another gem: “Somewhere.” Stephen Dorff plays a disaffected A-list actor, Elle Fanning is his 11-year-old daughter, and Phoenix did the score. Dang, I would have paid $12 to see the trailer alone! Dec. 22 cannot come soon enough. Keep reading »

Shun, Shag, Or Marry: The Possible Directors For “Breaking Dawn”

The final “Twilight ” movie, “Breaking Dawn,” is still in the beginning stages. But Summit is considering three big-deal directors to take it on—Sofia Coppola (“Lost in Translation”), Gus Van Sant (“Milk”), and Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls”). No decision will be made until the directors have a chance to read an outline of the screenplay. It’s interesting to imagine how each of these Hollywood heavyweights would handle the vampy love and (eek!) Bella’s birthing scene. And because we can’t keep our opinions to ourselves, we just have to tell you which directors we’d shun, shug, or marry. [EW] Keep reading »

We’re Jonze-ing For “Where The Wild Things Are”-Inspired Jewelry

You may know Spike Jonze as the director of “Being John Malkovich,” the ex-husband of director Sofia Coppola, or the current paramour of actress Michelle Williams. But on the eve of the release of his latest movie project, a live-action adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, he’s getting into the fashion business in a collaboration with Opening Ceremony. The mini-line’s theme ties in to the movie’s monster-y subjects and includes faux furs designed by Humberto Leon and claw jewelry designed by Pamela Love. After the jump, the metal horned look you can rock this fall. (Check out our “Where the Wild Things Are” inspiration board here.) [W] Keep reading »

GOOP Worships Sophia, Err, Sofia Coppola!

Dear Gwyneth Paltrow,
Even though I sort of can’t stand you and think it’s annoying that you think your taste is so amazing and your life is so grand as to warrant informing others how they can better their lives, I must admit I look forward to my weekly dose of GOOP. BUT, a token of advice: when you contact “five brilliant directors (four of whom I have worked with and one who I worship)” and ask them to list their favorite movies, you might want to make sure you spell their names correctly. Especially the one you “worship.” It’s Sofia, not Sophia, Coppola.
Love,

Sofia Coppola Makes Me Want To Soak Myself In Dior Perfume

Sofia Coppola’s a busy lady these days. Not only has she been designing bags for Louis Vuitton, but Coppola also directed a commercial for Dior’s Miss Dior Cherie fragrance. It has a jealousy inducing I’m-fabulous-and-live-in-Paris-in-the-’60s vibe to it. If this is the kind of life I’d live if I wore the perfume, I’ll buy myself a king-size bottle and play Brigitte Bardot’s song “Moi Je Joue” on repeat. [Fashionista] Keep reading »

    Sofia Coppola: Daddy’s Girl

The mark of a good dad is his kids, and when you’re Francis Ford Coppola, director of The Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now, and our personal favorite, the Michael Jackson Disney World 3D experience, Captain EO, you’ve already set the bar pretty darn high for your children. But if there’s a woman awesome enough to fill her father’s film-making shoes it’s Sofia Coppola. With The Virgin Suicides, Lost In Translation, and Marie Antoinette to her credit, she is undoubtedly making him proud. The two recently posed together for Annie Leibovitz (the photog responsible for ruining Miley Cyrus’ career), who shot their ad for Louis Vuitton Journeys. Sure, it’s made to sell handbags, but it also shows just how supportive and loving their father/daughter relationship really is. The Coppola’s are the cutest! [Trend Hunter]
