Hypothetically speaking, let’s say your relationship status suddenly went from “HAPPILY ENGAGED” to “HEARTBROKEN AND IN LIMBO”. In addition to how absolutely crappy you might feel, your ring finger probably feels a little naked too, without the presence of its previous occupant, aka your engagement ring. Even if you’re not one of these suffering souls, there’s no reason why a lady can’t buy herself her own damn ring to wear on, yes, her left ring finger. The leaves haven’t started falling off the trees yet, but they are cropping up on clothing and accessories. Designers definitely took inspiration from nature this season and are using leaves and flowers to adorn sweaters, skirts, dresses and jewelry. Some are literal interpretations, whereas others are more abstract. Did the budget get majorly cut for this year’s award show? Sure seemed like it, given the scaled down event space and the horrendous lineup of performers. Host Russell Brand was either hysterically funny or horribly flat, depending on who you ask, but I think everyone can agree that the British comedian (known for his role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall) was basically off the teleprompter the majority of the time, inciting anger in teen virgins (like Jordin Sparks and the Jonas Brothers) and Republicans (we’re sure Speidi didn’t appreciate his firestorm of insults spewed about President Bush and Sarah Palin). Suffice it to say, if Sparks, the Jonas Brothers, and MTV producers have anything to say about it, Brand will be getting a full body cavity check the next time he goes through immigration—that is, if he’s ever allowed in the States again.

This fall season the cardigan is making a statement. And that statement is: “Anything goes.” Whether stripes, bubble sleeves or silk-trim, the cardigan has definitely been updated. But don’t fret, old standbys—like a simple, over-sized cardigan—still feel current.

Since you’ll be stuffing your feet into boots for six months come November, why not have a little more toe-action with the latest crop of peep-toes, while you can? These shooties, booties and oxfords are sure to make the transition from summer to winter a lot easier, with their supple suede, classic leather and jewel tones. And you don’t even have to switch your bright toenail polish—this season is about breaking rules, after all.

Lord knows your purse is filled with unnecessary items (oh what, like you think you really do need to carry around those two extra sweaters?). That said, it might be time to think about expansion. If you’re at least going to stuff your sack with extras, you might as well think about upgrading to a tote (or, if you’re die-hard), adding one to your load. Get the most use out of them now by lugging around your summer beach accessories in these friendly and affordable choices. Cute? Totes.

Remember way back to say, 2000, a time before Blackberrys and PDAs? A time when you kept track of your life through pen and paper? We think it’s time to bring back those notebooks and planners, those archaic accessories of yesteryear. Here, a collection of papergoods, and we bet they’re cuter than you remembered.

I love going sleeveless during the summer because then I know I won’t get an ugly t-shirt tan. How do guys deal with that anyway? Obviously, we’re against tank tops on dudes, but I realize how unfair that is, given the whole farmer tan business. Well whatever. After the jump we’ve picked out nine sleeveless shirts that we think are cute. Some of them are dirt cheap, others are so expensive only Mariah Carey could afford them.

Maybe we were a little hard on the fellas yesterday, with our slideshow of fashion trends we hate for them to wear…but you gotta admit, you agreed with us at least on the mandles, right? Anyway, in the interest of preserving the peace between The Frisky and, uh, mankind, we’ve put together a slideshow of men’s fashion trends we totally approve of. Feel free to take notes.

I blame Gwyneth Paltrow circa 1997 for why I do not have the balls to cut my hair. Back during my senior year of high school, when I was zitty and spectacled and decidedly not cute, I decided it would do much for my self-esteem to chop my hair off like the then-girlfriend of Brad Pitt. You remember the cut right? I think it was bigger than The Rachel.

So, last night I went home, took my dog for a pathetic 30 minute run, came home and made leftover tacos for dinner, and watched another thrilling episode of Hell’s Kitchen. The ten celebrity ladies after the jump had almost as awesome a night as I did—they were either dressed to the nines at the Crystal & Lucy Awards in LA or at the Whitney Art Party in New York. I am not jealous in the slightest.

As a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival, Natalie must have had to travel to France with a lot of fancy dress for all those red-carpet appearances. Her favorite style right now seems to be anything involving ruffles, and while on other people we might be more critical of this choice, Natalie makes ruffles look good. Ruffles are her friends.

We’re not super sold on the other half of Scientology’s hottest couple, but there’s no denying that Mrs. Cruise has got some fierce fashion sense.
