You’ve probably heard about the insane skydiving accident that occurred this weekend near Lake Superior in Wisconsin. Two planes carrying nine seasoned skydivers collided at 12,000 feet and miraculously, everyone including the pilots survived. Even crazier: the skydivers’ helmet cams caught the entire crash and plummeting fall. The teeny, tiny part of me that was curious about skydiving is now dead. These are the things nightmares are made of. Seriously, thank God they all survived. In other news, can we talk about how NBC news paid the skydivers $100,000 for the rights to air the video and lock them in for interviews? That seems a little shady to me. [Gawker; NY Daily News]

Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly.” So the company took her suggestion very literally and made a commercial — a genius commercial — featuring just that!

The ladies go by the name the Pearls of Russia and this was their third attempt at an intricately choreographed jump which is referred to as formation skydiving. “The 88 member ‘Pearls of Russia’ women’s skydiving team has just successfully pulled off a white, blue and red flower formation jump in the skies over Kolomna near Moscow, setting a world record for women’s parachuting,” says the description of the video below. A 26-year-old Belgian woman was just sentenced to 30 years in prison for sabotaging her rival’s parachute while skydiving. The woman fell 13,000 feet to her death in a Flemish garden. Schoolteacher Els “Babs” Clottemans apparently disabled 37-year-old Els Van Doran’s main and reserve ‘chutes because she was jealous of her involvement with their mutual Dutch skydiving man friend, 25-year-old Marcel Somers. The three often went skydiving together, making star formations in the sky before opening their chutes at 4,000 feet. Keep reading »
