With all of the new colors, formulas, and innovations that have stepped out onto the makeup scene in the past few months, it can be all too easy to let your basic skincare fall to the wayside. If you’re a beauty fiend, the kind of person who enjoys nothing more than the dewy first swipe of a new coral lipstick or the cool slick of a pitch-black liquid liner, the most important thing you can do for yourself is to lay down a damn good foundation. This doesn’t apply only to those who rise early to “put their face on,” as I always say — this is for everyone who’s ever been known to neglect their skin, to fall asleep with foundation on and wake up with mascara rings around their eyes, to slap body wash on their face during a hurried shower, to forgo moisturizer in a rush: your new skincare regimen starts today.
As of a few days ago, my face has become very, very dry. Until then, I was the poster girl for oily/combination blemish-prone skin, and I’ve always taken great care to stay as freakishly matte as possible. It seems like the hellish combination of cold, blustery weather and my take-no-prisoners approach to anti-acne skincare has turned my generally-self-regulating skin into a flaky red mess.
I’m on a quest to find the right products to soothe and restore radiance to my pale, sad face without throwing down $200+ for a fancy night creme. Has a sudden change in skin condition like this ever happened to you?
Huge pores. A lot of us have got ‘em, but they’re not always something we want share with the world. Thank the beauty gods for Benefit’s POREfessional, a translucent balm that minimizes the appearance of pores. Gently rub it over your T-zone, on your chin, your cheeks, and anywhere else where you’d love to see smoother skin. POREfessional is oil-free and goes on under makeup without any fuss. You’ll never be crying, “Oh, poor me, my pores!” again!

I love swapping beauty tips with friends, coworkers, even strangers on the street. When someone looks especially fabulous, I make sure to tell them, and, more importantly, ask their secret. Here are 55 cheap, easy hair and makeup tricks from Frisky staffers and friends. Some of them you probably already know, some of them you probably don’t, and who knows — one of them might change your life. Also, have I mentioned you’re looking quite lovely today? We’ve long loved online beauty and skincare company Beauty Bar for its extensive (extremely extensive) collection of top quality skincare, makeup and beauty brands. Where else can you find Malin + Goetz alongside L’Occitane with a little Bond No. 9 mixed in? Beauty Bar’s one-stop shop carries hundreds of high-end luxury brands and thousands of products — and now they’ve launched a physical shop where lucky locals can partake in their extensive bevy of products, along with a few new extras.
The Beauty Bar flagship store, which launched this week in Manhasset, New York, is a bi-level affair, featuring a treatment room, with a licensed aesthetician, and a blow dry bar. If you’re in the area, you can book a peel, facial or wax — and also stop in for a blowout — while you stock up on all your favorite products. [Beauty Bar, 2034 Northern Blvd, Manhasset, NY]
It’s almost that time of year again: you know, the time when you’re obligated to blow a good chunk of your hard-earned money on your family and friends. If your inner circle is anything like mine, they sure as hell expect something nice. Oven mitts just aren’t going to fly for my mom anymore, and my dad balks in the face of an Office Max fountain pen. I’m not going to lie, buying and giving gifts is hard, mostly because you can’t guarantee that someone will like something unless they’ve explicitly said what they’d want… and where’s the fun in that? For my people, my foolproof gift-buying agenda is to delve into Sephora and not emerge until a) my debit card cracks in half or b) I’ve got something for everyone (whichever comes first). Seriously, male or female, there’s not a single person I know who will deny a body butter in their favorite scent or a luxurious herbal bubble bath. My holiday gift guide stays true to that and regardless of age, gender, or skin type, everybody will be smelling good and feeling even better.
Oh, dichotomous winter. I love your pretty snow, your brisk air, your holidays… but I loathe what you do to my skin, my hair, my lips! You turn my most powerful (ahem) feminine assets from soft, smooth, and silky to dry, breaking, and brittle. What ever shall I do? Keep reading »
It’s the least wonderful time of the year. My skin is dry year-round, but fall and winter are the worst of the worst (as in, before writing this post I went to the ladies’ room to slater on face cream for the second time today). I don’t just have to worry about keeping the skin on my face moisturized (but not greasy!) %u2014 it’s when I suffer chapped, flaky, sensitive skin and pretty much carry lotion on me 24/7 to cope. Early in the morning is definitely when I’m at my least attractive and I’m sure many readers would say the same. It’s one thing to wake up alone looking like a puffy-eyed mess. But when you’re sleeping over with someone else, that’s another story entirely! Luckily, I have a few pointers on how to wake up looking gorgeous.
Sounds impossible, right? It’s not. Here’s how to start off sexy every morning…
