  • Tinder CMO Justin Mateen has resigned from the company after the company and its owner IAC settled a sexual harassment lawsuit by a former employee and romantic interest. Whitney Wolfe, an early employee at Tinder, said she was pressured to resign after she complained about sexist and inappropriate messages from Mateen. The amount of the settlement was undisclosed. Ex-Tinder Executive Sues Company For Alleged Sexual Harassment

Whitney Wolfe, Tinder’s former VP of marketing, is suing the hookup/dating app for sexual harassment, alleging that the startup’s CMO, Justin Mateen, in particular subjected her to ongoing demeaning behavior. Wolfe’s lawsuit is startling in its detail, accusing Mateen of, among many other things, calling her a “whore” in front of Tinder CEO Sean Rad. She also claims that she was stripped of her co-founder title on the basis of her being a young woman. Look, I know we’ve all done some crazy things for a job. But nothing tops Shirley Hornstein, an erstwhile, according to her Twitter, “Angel Investor and (dare I say) Entrepreneur” (nice random capitalization there, Shirley). To give herself credibility in the tech industry, Hornstein posted several heavily doctored photos online, showing herself hanging with famous notables, including Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg. On her blog, she boasted of working with tech players like iMeem, Nitro PDF and Dropbox.

And she probably would have gotten away with it, too, had she not boasted of working with the wrong guy. Keep reading »
