“Put some pants on!” this ad in the window of a Gap store declares. “Because we can’t all look good in shorts.” The provocative ad has inspired a controversy. The Huffington Post wonders if it’s “Offensive Or Clever.” The woman who took the photo of the debatable ad is journalist Stephanie Marcus. “Another day, another ad that tries to make people buy their products by making you feel bad about your body,” she writes. “What’s even funnier is that in another window,” she continues, “GAP is advertising for their Jeggings and not everyone looks good in those either, but as long as GAP can sell them to you they don’t really care.” I, myself, avoid going out in shorts. I guess you could say that’s my prerogative — or maybe I’ve been brainwashed. What do you think of the ad? Offensive? True? Both? Weigh in on the great pants vs. shorts debate in the comments. Shorts are a tricky and generally unflattering beast. But when the temperature is pushing 90 and the mere thought of jeans is vomit-inducing, it’s hard not to acknowledge the benefits of a nice demi pant. Shopping for shorts is not usually fun. Whether they’re too tight, small or mean to the shape of your butt, the ways in which shorts can go wrong are borderline endless. And if watermelon pink isn’t quite your thing, pick up a pair in white, black, light, or dark gray. You got options, lady. [$68, Lululemon] Keep reading »

We’ve debated the idea of denim shorts and have even given advice on how to wear them, but recently I’ve been seeing a lot of denim short-shorts for spring. Did I miss something? I thought these were only for women at the beach and teen girls whose summer look consists of rubber flip-flops in every color to match their exposed bra straps. But, no. Denim short-shorts are now being marketed towards grown women and it seems retailers expect us to wear them … gasp! … on the street with high heels? What’s going on?
OK, in full disclosure, I’ll admit to wearing a pair of coochie-cutting denim shorts a few years ago, but I was away on a weekend of debauchery, the shorts were never worn outside, and I threw them away when I returned home. The short-shorts served their purpose, and I probably won’t wear shorts with such little fabric again. Will you wear denim short-shorts this summer? Keep reading »
