Rashida Jones was on “The Today Show” the other day to talk up the return of “Parks and Rec” (yay!) and she wore this cute and casual shorts ensemble. We like the unique printed blouse and the turquoise shorts, and think this is a perfect spring look if you work in a casual office. Check out how we stole her style after the jump.

I’ve always had a problem with pants and skirts that come with a belt attached. I feel like these garments represent a significant step toward the downfall of civilization. I mean, if we can’t even choose our own belt and loop it through a few belt holes how will we feed ourselves and solve the global warming crisis? When I saw these shorts with suspenders attached, well, that’s when I knew there was no hope for mankind. [$137, Pink Mascara]
I’m kind of obsessed with this embarrassing photo of Bill Clinton and Al Gore from the ’90s. I happen to think the former president was, is, and always will be a stone cold fox. I refuse to be ashamed! Nothing is sexier than a man with brains, clout, and a history of infidelity. Am I right, ladies? Oh … is that Al Gore’s …. nevermind. [Buzzfeed]
Wearing shorts in the middle of the fall or winter can be a little tricky for some. But I’m here to tell you that it’s really as easy as wearing a skirt or dress during the colder months. All you have to remember are a few simple rules, for lack of a better word. First, and this is a biggie, you have to create a continuous line of color from the shorts to your legs or your legs to your shoes or from shoes to legs to shorts. Also, wear something that skims the body on top to avoid any boxiness. It can be a fitted top, sweater, or even a jacket that highlights the waist. In addition, if you’re going for a light pair of shorts, then balance out the color while making it season appropriate with a darker neutral. But in this instance, if you choose black then don’t also add in gray and brown or vice versa. See these rules in practice with the two shorts for cold weather looks I put together. Keep reading »
I didn’t become aware of Anjelica Huston’s fabulousness until she starred in the 1990 film “The Witches” and “The Addams Family” in 1991. But this model and actress has been mesmerizing audiences with her beauty and acting skills since the ’70s. I love looking at old photos of celebrities, and fell for this easy look Huston is wearing in the photo above. This fuss-free, casual look inspired me to find a slightly dressier option with silkier fabrics. Find out how to get it, after the jump! Keep reading »
There is a commercial that plays often in the New York area for a local, super upscale, chic-chic bowling alley. In the commercial there’s a pretty girl wearing hot-ass leather shorts and a high-collared shirt going on a bowling date with a very attractive floppy-haired dude and I always think, Wow, that bowling alley is really going for the cool hipster contingent. And then I think that perhaps that term has been angled and destroyed and co-opted by the mainstream so much that it’s actually meaningless. And then I think: I really need to turn off the TV. Anyway! These Alexander Wang leather mini-shorts with lapel pockets pretty much approximate the ones the cute girl in the commercial wears, but will these shorts land you a floppy-haired man of your dreams? All signs point to … the Man Panel. Click to see their thoughts after the jump! Keep reading »
I’m still not totally on board with the formal shorts thing. No matter the fabric, I feel like shorts are inherently a more casual choice than skirts or trousers. That being said, the formal-ish shorts that are filling the stores right now are adorned with a little something extra — ribbon belts, bows, leather trim, foldover waistbands or embellished hems — that make them seem exponentially more special than a pair of denim cutoffs. After the jump, seven options perfect for Sunday brunches with your girlfriends, wandering around an art museum, or date night with your lover.
I’m not sure what to think of this advertising scheme by Superette, a store in Australia and New Zealand. They put these stamps on park benches and mall seats, with the idea that women in short skirts and shorts would sit and have the ad imprinted on the back of their thighs. Part of me thinks this is super creative and kind of funny; but the other part would be pretty pissed if I looked down and realized that I had an ad pressed into my gams. Plus, the store says the imprints last up to an hour. Eek! What do you think of this? [Ads of the World] Keep reading »
The tights-and-shorts combo in winter isn’t for everyone. Personally, I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, but have specific requirements (heavy wool or tweed fabrics, dark colors). When I saw these Madewell by Alexa Chung shorts, I was brought back to the late ’90s when crushed velvet was all the rage, and yup, I definitely had a pair of velvet shorts. I’m not so sure I’d be so eager to jump back into them, however. What about you? Velvet shorts in winter: yay or nay? [$88, Madewell] Keep reading »
