I was deeply disappointed by the latest poll at Don Q’s Lady Data. According to Don Q’s secret lady spies, 85 percent of women want to date a guy that’s taller than them and 0 percent want to date a guy shorter than them. What? That’s crazy! No love for the shorties? For all of you shorty-hating ladies out there, I think the 8’1” Sultan of Turkey is still single. I’m sure you’ll find him drop-dead sexy holding that 1,435 pound gingerbread cookie he presented to the Guinness Book of World Records in Norway yesterday.

Here at The Frisky we like all shapes and sizes of gingerbread cookies … er … men. Whether you’re super short or freakishly tall, we don’t discriminate. And in case you needed any extra incentive to go out with that hot, vertically economical guy, here are 10 reasons why you won’t be disappointed.

Yesterday I wrote Advice For The Vertically Challenged and was surprised by some of the comments. Many quite fairly pointed out that perhaps my definition of “short” should be revised, or that I should be clear that just because I feel short at 5’ 5” does not make this height or anything bellow it qualify as “short.” What really struck a chord with me, however, were comments concerning height differences when it comes to dating. I started thinking about my own reasons for feeling short and realized that it was mostly due to the fact that most of the men I have dated have been at least six feet tall. Hmmm, I wonder…

There are times when I struggle being a person of limited height, i.e., when I want a box of cereal on the top shelf at the grocery store, when I need to replace the battery in my smoke alarm, or when I want to kiss a guy who is 6’4’’ and I’m not wearing heels. It’s tough being a bit of a shortie, and I’m a girl, so I can only imagine what men must go through, especially when it comes to dating.

On last night’s Millionaire Matchmaker, Joseph, 5’8”, struggles to find a woman who would date someone shorter than herself. Well, Joseph is most likely not 5’8”. Guys lie about their height more than they lie about the size of a particular body part. In our opinion, the problem with Joseph is not that he is short, or even that he lies about his height, but that he sees himself with a tall, model-esque woman. We have nothing against short guys dating tall girls—hello, Tom and Katie, not to mention every guy who dates a model or a Williams’ sister—but the fact that he’s ruling out the possibility of dating a short woman is disturbing, mostly because I don’t want anyone ruling me out.
