I consider myself something of a pullover sweater connoisseur in that I am never not wearing one. Why wear real clothes when you can just throw a sweater on? This year, I’m loving them in warm, thick knits and relaxed crew-neck silhouettes, perfect for wearing alone or layering over collared shirts. Check out 10 of my top picks in the gallery above!

This weekend I was wandering around one of my favorite stores when I spotted a sliver of blue plaid fabric peeking out from the crowded rack of dresses. Blue is my favorite color, and plaid is my favorite pattern, so I was immediately intrigued.
When I reached into the mass of hangers and pulled out the mysterious dress, there is a good chance I audibly gasped. It was lined in silk, with a cutout in the back, a sweetheart neckline, and a flowing hourglass shape. It was surprisingly formal, but the plaid fabric made it feel playful and fun. It was unique without trying too hard. It was, quite possibly, the most beautiful dress I’d ever seen. “I would pay $200 for a dress like this,” I thought, flipping over the price tag to reveal numerous crossed-out sale prices making their way toward a grand total of $39.97. I practically skipped to the dressing room. Keep reading »
We’re in love with gold, especially around the holidays ― its warm glow is universally flattering, and just a touch of the metallic shade can take a look from drab to party-ready. We know it’s a solid choice for jewelry, but when it comes to clothes and other accessories, it can be difficult to know where to draw the line between festive and, well, overboard. Here are our best bets (including a few well-deserved splurges) for integrating a little bit of flash in our wardrobes this season …
Often when I’m looking for a celeb outfit to steal, the first place my eyes go is to the ground to get a good look at their footwear. It always seems like such a shame when the rest of their outfit doesn’t work from the ankles up, or the clothes are great but the shoes are a travesty. Well, who says we have to steal the whole outfit anyway? Not me, and I’m in charge around here! This time, I’m focusing on shoes in neutral tones — black and nude, mostly — that are a great works-with-anything addition to any closet. Check out these celeb shoes and their more affordable counterparts above!
The beauty of an all-black outfit is that, no matter the pieces or the way you choose to wear them, you just can’t go wrong. It’s an easy way to look instantly pulled together without much thought or effort. Needless to say, I love a good monochromatic look, especially with just a touch of shine or color, and this hip version on Jessica Alba is right up my alley. Asymmetrical hems make simple layers more interesting, and a faux-shearling vest is the epitome of luxe (and warmth!). Snag Jess’s style, after the jump… Keep reading »
A casual gray sweatshirt is a can’t-be-without stalwart in any wardrobe, but we’re not talking the classic Champion men’s version anymore ― the old standby has been given a respectable high-end twist this season with softer, warmer textures and a more figure-flattering shape. Think of it as a sporty take on your favorite cashmere sweater: it can go upscale low-key with printed jeans, a crystal statement necklace, and flat boots, or even cocktail party-ready with a maxi skirt and turquoise earrings. Don’t believe me? See for yourself … Keep reading »
First thing’s first: I’m a Jew. I haven’t celebrated Christmas since I was a little kid and we still believed in Santa Claus. (I was eight when I discovered he wasn’t real, and ceremoniously told my younger brother and sister at the dinner table. My mom got so mad she squeezed ketchup all over my face.) We never had a tree, but after that year, we stopped getting Christmas presents, too.
My bad. Keep reading »
Clothing mannequins are weird whichever way you spin it ― they’re headless! They’re probably watching you! ― but they’re something of a necessary evil in retail to display how featured articles of clothing hang on, well, a human body. Unfortunately, this “human body” is usually a pretty terrible representation of not only how the clothing looks on, but also an actual human body. Maybe a select demographic of those shopping at any given store have those kinds of dimensions, but the fact is that the vast majority of people don’t. You might know this already, but human beings come in all shapes and sizes, so the concept of a plus-sized mannequin in a plus-sized store has the potential to be a positive development. If it’s done correctly, that is. Keep reading »

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the world is Miranda Kerr‘s runway. She’s just casually posing in the street, looking like she stepped straight out of the pages of Vogue! You know what they say — if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, and if you can’t hunt down the same exact printed skirt no matter how hard you try, and oh God did you try, well, find one kind of similar. We’re stealing Miranda’s effortless look, after the jump… [Photo: FameFlynet] Keep reading »
