Fall Must Haves: 11 Pretty-As-A-Painting Baroque Pieces

Think baroque, with its shadowy drama, rich colors, and exaggerated opulence, is best left in 17th century Europe? Think again: the grand, flourishing stylization is experiencing a revival, and not in the medium you would think. After appearing on fall runways from Balmain to Dolce & Gabbana, what’s old has become new again in chiaroscuro contrasting shades, like black with gilded details and neutral greys with vividly-hued embellishment, and it’s looking fresher than ever. Get your hands on these 11 classic pieces before everybody else does.

Fall Must Haves: 10 Oxblood Pieces (They’re Less Scary Than They Sound)

Flip open any fashion magazine this season and I guarantee it will declare fall’s hottest color as oxblood. Not human blood, not cow blood, not goat blood, not any of the other grosser sounding color names on Winona’s list, but oxblood! Otherwise known by the considerably less alarming name “maroon,” it’s a deep, sort of dull reddish brown, which I guess is the color that oxen bleed. Semantics aside, oxblood fits perfectly into the dark, vampy color scheme we’ve forecasted for fall, and its gothy appeal is sure to complement any autumn-to-winter wardrobe (especially if you, like me, tend to find yourself in a rut of all black everything from October through February). Check out my ten picks for oxblood pieces that will see you through this season and beyond … and please, do feel free to call it maroon.

It’s Here! Anna Dello Russo’s Gorgeously Gilded Accessories Collection For H&M

It was only a matter of time before Vogue Japan editor-at-large and totally OTT fashionista Anna Dello Russo got to put her medal of approval on a line of her own, and it’s only natural that she of the outrageous fascinators and tacky-goes-high fashion opulence would cut her design teeth on — what else? — accessories. We’re pretty sure that Anna’s diehard devotion to kooky couture and right-off-the-runway looks has never led her wayward into a lowly H&M, but what does it matter when her choice to collaborate with the retailer means that we can walk in off the street and snag one of her signature gilded pieces at a reasonable price?

With 50 pieces ranging from $24.95 for pendant earrings to $299 for a formidable pair of thigh-high leather boots, they’re affordable enough that you can follow Anna’s advice to accessorize liberally or play it a little more low-key. But don’t bother to ask yourself what Anna would do — she’d pile ‘em right on, of course. Click through to check out all of the offerings, and do tell us which ones you’ll be fighting for come October 4. We’ll be picking up that peacock fascinator just to say we did. Must Haves: 10 Pairs Of Versatile Fall-Ready Shorts

Ah, don’t you just love that weird in-between-seasons weather when it’s too hot to wear pants and too unpredictable/chance of rain-y to bust out the sundresses? Yeah, me neither. With humidity, precipitation, and grey skies hanging in the air, it’s hard to get excited about leaving the house, let alone putting on the clothes required to do so. That’s where fall shorts (in heavier fabrics and darker colors than your typical summer pair) come in — they’re the best of both worlds! They offer prime leg ventilation while still providing the comfort and wind protection factor (WPF) that skirts can’t, and they can be worn in today’s hyper-humid weather as well as tomorrow’s (maybe) cooler breeze: just add tights! Plus, you can dress ‘em up easily. Check out these ten pairs of fall-ready shorts that have already made their way onto my wishlist…

Style Stealer: Jessica Hart Takes A Stylish City Walk With Puppy Floyd

Jessica Hart is best known in the modeling world for her trademark gap teeth, her laid-back Australian style, and oh, the notorious bar brawl that involved boyfriend Stavros Niachros getting a fist to the face and left friend Prince Pierre Casiraghi with a broken royal jaw. Fun times with models, royals, and Greek shipping heirs! All controversy aside, it’s fair to say that Hart is quite sartorially inclined — in fact, she recently launched a clothing line of her own with New York-based brand Pencey. The model from down under was spotted out and about in Manhattan yesterday taking her Yorkie, Floyd, for a stroll and naturally looked beyond cool while doing so. Temperatures haven’t dropped quite yet, so Jessica is taking advantage of the last days of summer in shorts, sandals, and a loose tee while winking at pre-fall style with leather shorts. This simple, versatile look can be worn well into the next season with the addition of black tights and a pair of boots — let’s steal it! Keep reading »

Must Haves: 10 Watches $150 And Under For Keeping Time In Style

When it comes to watches, my priority is not being on time — in fact, I’ve worn my fair share of broken vintage versions just for the look of them. I can’t be alone, right? (Or am I?) Regardless, I covet the hell out of gorgeous, brutally priced timepieces (whether they’re functioning or not). Rolex? Bulgari? Sign me up. Unfortunately, I don’t have the kind of budget that allows for $30,000 watches. That diamond and sapphire-studded leopard-face Cartier? I can’t have it, even though I want it. Luckily, there’s a world of watches out there, and there are tons that look believably rich, without the rich price tag. Check out my 10 picks for sweet watches at prices that won’t make your heart stop ticking.

Makeup Bag: 8 Essential Products For Holding On To Summer All Year Long

I hate to admit it, but the calendar doesn’t lie: September is approaching, and fast. It seems like just yesterday we were gearing up for spring, which turned out to be practically nonexistent, before summer came on hot and heavy. I may be in the minority here, but I would take a gloriously sunny, breezy late-August or early-September day over the oppressive humidity of July. Don’t get me wrong — that doesn’t mean I’m not feeling the universal sadness that comes with the end of the summer, but I’m definitely looking forward to cooler, more jeans-appropriate weather. For those of you who take the end of the season just a little bit harder than I, I understand, and to make things a little easier for you I’ve rounded up a selection of products that will give you that summer lovin’ feeling all year long, or at least until the next time June rolls around.

Must Haves: 7 Tiny Makeup Bags For Your Everyday Essentials

Finding yourself out in public looking decidedly worse for the wear and without access to your trusted array of makeup is a total nightmare. It’s hard not to panic when, say, you’re encroaching on oil slick status en route to a spur-of-the-moment party, or you’ve spotted your ex across the Starbucks line and you don’t have so much as an errant lipstick on hand. Of course, lugging around your entire face-painting collection is impractical and virtually impossible, but it’s always important to have the essentials stashed away, you know, just in case. These seven makeup bags are petite enough to fit in a satchel, but have just enough room for the basics, not to mention the tiny coordinating treats you may just want to throw in, too …

Must Haves: 10 Unfussy White Tank Tops To Pair Perfectly With Everything

Despite my best efforts, I must own up to the fact that all I really want to wear is black jeans and loose white tank tops. You’ve witnessed my attempted (read: failed) Style Resolution and my awkwardly-posed photos in short floral skirts that just aren’t me. I’ve pretty much got a uniform, and instead of forcing myself into clothes outside of my comfort zone, isn’t there a way for me to keep things fresh while staying true to my grungy, casual roots? This is where these 10 not-so-plain white tank tops come in. Sure, they’re just… well, they’re just plain white tank tops, but their luxurious fabrics and soft, drapey fits make them the perfect layering piece (or centerpiece!) for any outfit. I’ll be pairing them with a statement necklace and a blazer or cardigan when temperatures drop.
