Hi/Lo: Vintage-Inspired Totes For Spring

hi-lo-vintage-totes

Cute and feminine with a vintage feel? I’m in. Kate Spade’s Vita Riva Francis bag is super cute but a little out of my price range. I’m not gonna spend $398 on a bag to carry sunblock, beach towels, and beers! Mod Cloth’s When In Venice Beach Bag provides the same feel for a fourth of the cost.

Is it summer yet? I’m dreaming of sand, sun, and saltwater. When I saw this Cynthia Vincent clutch, my heart screamed “need!” but my brain said “no way!” I have never purchased a clutch for $295 and have no intention of starting now. If you can’t wait to go to the beach, or wear the beach under your arm, try Island Betty Hawaii’s version available on Etsy!

Style Guide: 5 Wedding Dress Trends

As a child, whenever I closed my eyes every wedding dress looked the same: a strapless ball gown, with a long white veil. (Maybe that was the dress my Barbie came with?)  In reality, wedding dresses (or jumpsuits) come in many shapes, sizes, and fabrics, the unique beauty of each being in the details.

I was lucky enough to be invited to David’s Bridal and Zac Posen’s fall previews and I have to say the dresses were stunning. As a married woman, I found myself pining to get married all over again just because of the all the potential fashion moments! Then Katie kicked me in the shin and told me to leave some wedding dresses for the single ladies.

Unfortunately many of our favorites won’t be available until Fall 2014, but here are some examples of our favorite dress trends.

Hi/Lo: Varsity Sweater

Hi/Lo: Varsity Sweater

See that varsity tennis sweater on the left? It’s by Rag & Bone (or is it “rag & bone”? I dunno) and it is THE IT SWEATER of the season. Various fashion magazines told me so and then I’ve seen it on at least five celebrities in the last few weeks. But it is so expensive. Stupidly expensive really, which is why it’s great that those clever folks at Nasty Gal made a straight up rip-off for 85 percent less. Love? LOVE. (Plus, check out more varsity fashion below!)

Fashion Math: Stripes + Floral Prints

Today’s Fashion Math — in which two fabulous elements are added together to form one super stylish outfit — is inspired by … myself! I know, how egotistical. But I liked my outfit today and think it demonstrates just how necessary it is to break certain old fashioned style rules about combining prints. My blouse is a floral print, while my jeans are railroad stripe (the stripes are way more obvious in person than captured by the photo above), and I think they look unexpected, but great, paired together. (I even through on leopard print pumps, but that’s basically fashion calculus and I don’t think we’re there yet.) Seriously, stripes and florals may seem like an odd couple, but as the following nine outfits demonstrate, they are actually a perfect pair…

Must Haves: 25 Low Block-Heel Sandals

Let me introduce you to my new best friend, the low block-heel sandal. She loves to take long walks in the park, window shop for hours at a time, flirt at happy hour, and go dancing at da club, but is still all business at the office. Although she only stands about two-inches tall, she always compliments my clothes, is reliable in a jam, and supports my every adventure! This summer, we will spend every waking hour together. Compassionate Fashion: Handmade Scarves & Accessories From FashionABLE

FashionABLE is a company based in Nashville, Tennessee that seeks to create sustainable business opportunities for women in Ethiopia through stylish, handmade scarves and leather goods. Shop The Trend: Fruit Prints!

I am so pumped that spring weather has arrived! Shorter hemlines, lighter fabrics and happier prints, GET AT ME. Speaking of the latter, one of my favorite trends for spring is fruit. Lemons, limes, strawberries, watermelon and pineapple abound in many of the textiles being used for everything from dresses and skirts to crop tops and rompers. Seriously, looking at that striped pineapple dress in the middle is making me both hungry and sartorially inspired. Click through for more fruity fashion…
