Sustainable Style: The Fine Folks Of Feral Childe

Sustainable Style
A month of eco-friendly fashion on The Frisky! Read More »

Feral Childe is the creation of bicoastal design team Moriah Carlson and Alice Wu. They make simple, comfortable clothing in amazing fabrications, often creating clothes out of their collaborative drawings. You might remember them from a fairly recent kerfuffle with Forever 21, after the chain store ripped off a rather unique pattern the brand made. But you should also know them because they make cool, totally sustainable and locally produced clothing. They have a “waste not, want not” ideology about their company, donating any scrap materials to local design schools for use, and they’re totally transparent, making sourcing and production information available to any customer who requests it. We really love their aesthetic, too. Check out some of our favorite looks above!

6 Awesome J. Crew Pieces — On eBay!

I’ve never been much of an eBay shopper; in fact, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve bought something on the e-retailer. But two of them have been in the last year — and both were brand new J. Crew items. Maybe this isn’t a secret, but it sure as heck was to me — it turns out, there’s a ton of brand new, with tags, J. Crew items being sold on eBay. Why? I’m not entirely sure. I do know that I was incredibly happy with both of my purchases: 1) a winter coat I coveted after seeing it in a movie and 2) a pair of round-toe pumps that I got for $40 less than the retail price. In fact, if I’m coveting anything currently being sold at J. Crew — and, let’s face it, I always am — I check eBay to see if anyone is selling it at a markdown. Plus, eBay is also a great place to check for past favorites that you wish you had snatched up. Here are six awesome J. Crew items you can score on eBay right now.

Awesomely Affordable: 10 Items Under $50 From Nasty Gal

Every now and then while browsing the internet I’d see a link to Nasty Gal and assume it was porn. Then my friend Aileen sent me a link to Nasty Gal and I still assumed it was porn, but since a friend sent it to me I thought I might as well check it out. Turns out this questionably named site actually sells trendy women’s clothing, and they’ve got a great summer collection. So, without further ado, here are 10 of my favorite Nasty Gal pieces for $50 or less (and yes, I’m aware how inappropriate that sentence sounds) …

7 Things I Can’t Help But Buy Even Though I Already Own Something Just Like It

I am and have always been a creature of habit. I think it’s a symptom of my OCD, but when I like something, I really  like it and I can’t get enough of it and things just like it. I once ate the same tuna fish sandwich (on a baguette with avocado and tomato) everyday for four months. It is a miracle I did not get mercury poisoning.

This obsessive nature applies to my shopping habits. Once something becomes my thing, I am drawn to nothing but that thing for months, weeks, years on end. A newer version of that thing is purchased with the justification that it’s different enough, shinier and just necessary. As a result, I have a lot of multiples. Here are seven things I cannot help but buy even though I already own something just like it.

Sustainable Style: 8 Bags From Rising Tide Fair Trade

Virginia Dooley and Nicole Jones started their line of fair trade bags, Rising Tide, after traveling around the world and meeting artisans working with exotic and unique textiles. Their bags are Fair Trade Federation-certified and Green America-approved, and a percentage of the profits are donated to philanthropic programs that educate and equip underserved young women with the skills needed to secure employment or start a business.

Explain the pair on their site, “The fair trade artisans we work with earn roughly 60 percent more than they would for comparable factory jobs. Since most of the artisans have the choice to work from home, they can tend to their children while contributing to the family income.”

And the bags are pretty and durable, too. Check out our eight favorites!
