It’s summer! You know what you need? A bag that’ll store your laptop/wallet/mini-vodka bottles — you know, all your crap. A bag that will work on your shoulder, but also crossbody, so if you happen to be riding a bike with your bag, you won’t lose your balance and crash into a street sign (yes, that happened to me, whatever). Ladies, step away from the flip flops. As comfy as they may be around the house or in the dorm/gym shower (please, you’re not going in there barefoot, are you?), flip flops aren’t appropriate in, like, 99 percent of office environments. You might think if you put a massive foam platform on it or something, it’s okay, but no. Also, those foam platform flip flops gross me out in the same way espadrilles do.

So what is appropriate? First, check if your workplace has any kind of dress code. Here at The Frisky, the general rule is, “go ahead, wear some clothes, and maybe some shoes — though you really don’t necessarily need to even keep them on all day.” Yeah, we’re gross. But most places, not so much. As a general rule, it’s a good idea to make sure more of your foot is covered than uncovered — especially if you work in any kind of public-facing job (aka retail). Nobody needs to see your shrimp cocktail toes.

The other day, I did a post of celeb ladies wearing white, where I told y’all how I’d been indoctrinated to believe that you shouldn’t wear white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day. But then a couple readers mentioned that they thought that the no-white prohibition ended on Easter, not Memorial Day. I did a quick poll of the office and we all think it’s Memorial Day and oh my God, I’m sure you guys don’t really care. You’re like, get to the clothes already! The collapse of Rana Plaza, a clothing factory in Bangladesh, has been a horrifying wake-up call about the consequences of “fast fashion.” Here at The Frisky, we’re dedicated to bringing you the styles you love at prices you can afford, but we’re also working hard to make sure to recommend companies we believe in and advocate for better working conditions for the people (mostly women) who make the clothes we buy. It’s that annoying in-between season time, and if you’re anything like us, you’re having a difficult time figuring out what to wear. May we suggest the peep-toe bootie as a possible transitional shoe for winter-to-spring?
