Details remain sparse, but Nevada police say two people are dead after a shooting at Sparks Middle School shortly after 7am local time this morning. The shooter is among the dead, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal, and Sparks’ city manager says the shooter was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two more people have been transferred to a hospital, where they are in critical condition; a hospital rep says both are male minors. The AP notes that Sparks is located just east of Reno. That city’s deputy chief says as many as 200 personnel responded to the school and local area. “The schools are safe. The rest of the city is safe,” he says. Read more at Newser…
Four people have been killed and at least eight are injured in the shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard, a US Navy public affairs director is confirming. The Navy itself is reporting fatalities, though it won’t say how many. The shooter is described as “contained,” and is believed to have barricaded himself somewhere on the Yard. He is described as a roughly 6-foot-tall black man wearing a black shirt and a black hat, and is reportedly carrying multiple guns. The Navy says it can’t confirm reports of multiple shooters. “I did Kick-Ass 2 a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to others involve[d] with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change of heart.”
After 20 children and six adults were killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings in Newton, Connecticut, December, Jim Carrey now denounced, via a tweet, the “level of violence” throughout the film, in which he plays “a baseball-bat-wielding masked crimefighter.” Executive producer Mark Miller shared his bewilderment over Carrey’s tweet on his blog, writing, “[I’m] baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn’t in the screenplay 18 months ago. Yes, the body count is very high, but a movie called Kick-Ass 2 really has to do what is says on the tin.” Keep reading »
I really, really, really want this to be an April Fool’s Day joke.
ZMB Industries, which manufactures shooting targets which all resemble zombies, has a “zombie ex-girlfriend” target of a bra-clad woman for presumably-male shooters to “kill.”
Put another way: practice murdering your ex-girlfriend, men! It’s okay! Because she’s a “zombie!”
The Bleeding Ex-Girlfriend Target sells for $89.99 and each one is “hand painted to accurately resemble an infected human that just finished gnawing on his trusted courier’s leg, to give you that realistic look so you genuinely feel the hate.” A site that sells the ex-girlfriend target, Motorcycles & Outdoors, also sells Arab “terrorist” and North Korean soldier targets. My brain can’t even process it all. I’m so disgusted at the cavalier disregard for violence against women that I don’t know what to say. [Motorcycle & Outdoors via Salon]
After James Holmes’ attorneys said he was not ready to enter a plea this morning, the judge did it for him—not guilty on 166 counts, including the murder of 12 people in an Aurora movie theater last July and attempting to kill 70 others, reports the Denver Post. The move lets Holmes keep the option of changing the plea to not guilty by reason of insanity. Read more…
Meleanie Hain, 31, who made headlines last month by showing up at her kid’s soccer game with a loaded glock strapped to her belt, was found shot dead in her Pennsylvania home on Thursday in what may have been a murder-suicide. Her husband Scott, 33, was also killed. Police don’t think anyone else was involved and the couple’s kids were hiding at a neighbor’s house. Keep reading »
Last night, a crazy, woman-hating man fired 52 shots into a ”Latin Impact” dance aerobics class at a LA Fitness health club outside of Pittsburgh. Three women were killed, and nine others were injured before the guy turned the gun on himself. George Sodini, 48, was a huge wack job. He had major beef with women and had been planning this murder for nine months on his website. On the site, he complained about having no control over his life, getting rejected by women, being a loner, failing at an earlier shooting attempt, and his problems with alcoholism. He even listed his death as August 4, 2009, the day the shooting happened.

A shooting range, a hunting party, South Central Los Angeles: These are all places you might expect a stray bullet to graze your body. A public bathroom? Not so much. Yet, some poor 53-year-old woman managed to defy the odds and got shot in the leg while innocently relieving herself. Janifer Bliss, from Tampa, FL, was injured when a gun was dropped by the woman in the next stall. Bliss is currently in the hospital for minor treatment, and the state of Florida is considering bringing charges against Debra Monce, 56, who was carrying the concealed gun. No humor in that potty. Okay, maybe just a little. [metro.co.uk] Keep reading »
“What percentage of women ejaculate and why?” — Squirt Alert, via email
Female ejaculation (aka shooting or gushing) has been a topic of discussion for hundreds of years. Even Aristotle pondered about “vaginal expulsions”. Which I THINK begs an even different question: Aristotle was so good in bed he made women gush?
