Sherri Shepherd has been working toward a swimsuit body since May, which included getting her first Brazilian, and today she strutted her stuff on live TV. Besides working with a nutritionist, a trainer, and an endocrinologist, Sherri tried on more than 300 suits until she found the one she wore. Personally, I like the one she’s wearing in this week’s People better, but I don’t think I could ever go on TV in a swimsuit, so who am I to judge her style choices. And is it just me, or does it look like she’s wearing pantyhose, the way the majorettes did in high school?

Brave, brave Sheri Shepherd shows us how hilarious a bikini wax can truly be. Not only do you feel her pain, but you feel so wrong for laughing at it. First of all, I’m surprised she was not told in advance, or even worse that she didn’t ask what kind of wax she was getting. It only adds to the tragic situation. I’d say it’s a nice break from the sporadic morning cat fights on “The View.”  Cringe, laugh, cry, and enjoy.

Obviously, we are big Tina Fey, Amy Sedaris, and Aisha Tyler enthusiasts. So we immediately clicked on this Huffington Post poll about 15 of the leading ladies of funny. But—wait—it asks readers to rate the women on their looks? Even HuffPo acknowledges that it’s a “poll of ridiculous proportions.” Sure, these women are beautiful. But it’s their wit, slapstick antics, and all-around hilariousness that stole our hearts. So while we wished they asked, “Who’s the funniest comedienne?” we decided to take a look at the current rankings. What we found may surprise you.

I was very skeptical when I heard about Essence’s special “Voluptuous Issue” this morning. I thought maybe it would be a gimmick like Vogue Italia’s “Black Issue”. And I didn’t see a need for a special issue celebrating full-figured women because Essence seems to do just that on a consistent basis. One of the reasons I’m not a big fan of this lady mag is because each month they have a section on how to wear a certain outfit in any size. The problem is the first size is an eight. I’m no where near that size, so I felt excluded each time I picked up the magazine. I also, for the life of me, couldn’t figure out why a magazine would celebrate a lifestyle that could lead to health problems. According to the Obesity Society, black women and men have the highest prevalence of obesity than any other race or ethnicity. But after reading the magazine, I had a greater understanding of the thinking behind this issue.

Do you remember what was playing when you lost your virginity? Someone at The Frisky lost hers to Willie Nelson [Oh, heck, it was me.—Editor], which is an interesting choice, no? Pierre Bouvier of Simple Plan lost his to Warrant’s “Cherry Pie,” and Cobra Starship’s Ryland Blackinton was listening to the Home Improvement theme song. In a Virgin Mobile survey, 25 percent chose “It’s Your Love” by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as the best song to lose your virginity to, which is just too sweet. But, like, how many guys have that in their iTunes? That song beat out “Feels Like the First Time”  by Foreigner, “Like a Virgin” by Madonna, and “Give It To Me” by Timbaland. Basically, those choices make us want to vomit, they’re so cliché.

Saying Tyra Banks is crazy is just redundant.  After all those seasons of the Surreal Life, everyone must know by now that it takes a well-crafted level of “look at me” to make it in the biz.  And in true celeb form, Tyra, the diva of drama queens, who screams all her lines like she’s getting slashed in a B horror movie, wants to be the gravitational pull of public attention. Whether she’s spooning Sherri Shepard on The View or showing off her model moves, she’s always doing something you have to watch like you’re rubbernecking a highway accident.  Unfortunately, in the media lately, she’s been made out to be a more of a car wreck than she deserves. She’s just a TV personality people! So we here at the Frisky just want to stand by our loud and proud lady.  We respect a woman, let alone a model, with a burgeoning career in her 30’s. And we’re super psyched about her new CW reality TV show which will be based on one of our fav movies The Devil Wears Prada.  So go on with your so bad it’s good self Ty Ty, we’ll be watching you compete in America’s Next Top Oprah!
