A List Of Suggested Workshops For “Sex Week” At Harvard (And Other Colleges)

This week, Harvard University is hosting their third annual, controversial “Sex Week,” a “week of programming that is interdisciplinary, thought-provoking, scholastic, innovative and applicable to student experiences in order to promote a holistic understanding of sex and sexuality.” This year, some of the workshops offered include “What What in the Butt: Anal Sex 101,” “Fifty Shades of False: Kink, Fantasy and Fetish,” and “#SellingSexy— How Our Social Culture Is Shaping The Future Of Entertainment,” amongst others. While these seminars sound interesting, informative, and are sure to promote happier, healthier sex lives, I can’t help but make a few more … necessary … suggestions for seminars that would benefit the masses. Can You Get It Up For The Thong Condom?

Can You Get It Up For The Thong Condom?

Condom companies are always coming out with new designs that promise to be “ribbed for her pleasure” or “extra thin” — there’s even a condom coming soon that’s made from something called hydrogel, which is apparently what contact lenses are made from. But if you ask me, the most … creative innovator in condom technology has to be Kong Yongxiang, a student at South Medical University in Guangzhou, China, who designed a thong-like condom that covers more surface area around the penis, preventing semen leakage. This condom g-string, called the Eros Protector, is designed to be worn like a pair of underwear and scored Yongxiang $300K in backing from Guangdong Yuezheng Investment Management Limited. Worried you might not be able to get wet for a guy essentially wearing a bib around his junk? Good news! The Eros Protector comes with ”Chinese herbal blend lubricant that helps to maintain the pH balance of a woman’s private parts.” The rubbers haven’t been produced yet, but above is a crude drawing of what to expect. Since the introduction of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine Gardasil in 2006, infections in women and girls have been by more than half. This statistic exceeds the expectations of researchers and although this progress is encouraging, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Director Thomas Frieden stated, “the report should be a wake-up call to our nation to protect the next generation by increasing HPV vaccination rates.”

The fact that the infection rate has dropped so much comes as a surprise because the inoculation rate in the U.S. is relatively low: only a third of girls ages 13 to 17 in the U.S. have been vaccinated. Unfortunately, HPV vaccinations have been dogged by “moral panic” concerns that vaccinating adolescent girls will encourage them to be promiscuous — which is flat-out not true.  Keep reading »

Principal Mark Slater of The Leys in Cambridge, a prestigious boarding school in the UK, has an idea popular with 14-year-old boys the world over: students should be taught sex education by porn stars.

Wait, what? Oh, he has his reasons! ”I wouldn’t rule it out — simply because of what they’ve done in their life — if I felt that person was going to put across good values and be a good influence,” Slater explained.

While we appreciate his accepting attitude, and understand that he feels that the students will learn a lot about the less glamorous and dangerous parts of the pornography industry, this suggestion is truly, laughably terrible.  As the porn star James Deen has put it, when he visits college campuses to lecture about safe sex, real life sex is nothing like porn sex: Keep reading »

The Massachusetts Legislature’s Public Health Committee is considering a new bill to ease parental consent rules for abortion. According to Planned Parenthood League Of Massachusetts, young women in Massachusetts under age 18 need to acquire written permission from a parent or guardian to obtain an abortion; if she’s unable to discuss this sensitive subject with a parent, she can get permission from a judge. But this new bill would allow young women to get permission from a doctor, nurse, or family member over age 25 instead of the court.

Additionally, a Democratic state rep in MA filed another bill including these same provisions, but would also lower the current age of consent  to 16.
