Wait, I thought the GOP attached nodes onto all white male Republicans’ balls to deliver electric shocks as soon as their lips start to form the words “rape” and “pregnancy”? What happened? How did Rep. Trent Franks dodge that?!

At a House Judiciary Committee hearing today, Rep. Franks of Arizona said his ban on abortions after 20 weeks does not need an exception for rape and incest because pregnancy as a result from rape is rare. “The incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low,” Dr. Franks announced. cop sexual assault video
Disgusting

This video is extremely disturbing. It’s a KLAS-TV Las Vegas news clip featuring a woman named Monica Contreras, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a court marshal and then arrested on false premises when she complained about it to judge (hearing master) Patricia Donninger.

Here’s what happened: Contreras was in Clark County family court in August 2011, with her two-year-old daughter, finalizing a divorce case. Then she was suddenly taken, by herself, into a room with court marshal Ron Fox to be searched for drugs. (There is no explanation given for why the search was needed.) During the search, the 28-year-old alleged the marshal touched her breasts, her butt and asked her to pull up her shirt. Then, Contreras walked back into the courtroom where Donniger sat, politely said she felt uncomfortable and “offended” by Fox’s requests to lift up her shirt, and that if she needed to be body-searched, could it be done by a woman. Patricia Donninger ignored her. Then Fox suddenly instructed another cop on duty to arrest her for “making false allegations against a police officer.”

But, as KLAS explains, there is no law about making false allegations against a police officer. It’s a bullshit charge he just made up because she was accusing him of sexual assault. And there is also no law that allows a police officer accused of sexual assault to arrest the accuser. Keep reading »

14-Year-Old Pregnant Rape Victim Slutshamed By Indiana Community

Today's Lady News photo
  • This whole story is horrific: A 13-year-old girl in Ellwood, Indiana, was raped by a 17-year-old and became pregnant. She decided to carry the pregnancy to term because she is against abortion. Now her community has been slutshaming the teen over her traumatic rape and subsequent teen pregnancy, with people writing “slut” and “whore” on her family’s garage door. Despite the fact that the rapist’s case has been working its way through juvenile court, classmates are still gossiping about whether she might be faking the rape. Meanwhile, the rapist has at least two other  young victims, one of whom was only 12, and has been charges with three counts of child molesting. [Slate, IndyStar.com]

Steubenville Hacker Could Do More Prison Time Than The Rapists

Today's Lady News photo
  • Deric Lostutter, the Anonymous hacker who exposed the Steubenville rape case — in which players on the high school football team sexually assaulted a drunk girl at a party and were protected by their community — is facing hacking-related charges from the FBI, which carry up to 10 years in prison. Ten years, by the way, is a lot longer than either of the convicted rapists will spend behind bars. Lostutter said he is being made an example of by the FBI. [Think Progress]
  • Ohio’s state Senate advanced a budget bill that strips state funding for Planned Parenthood clinics, which provide reproductive health care to low-income women, including cancer screenings and HIV testing. Instead the state would grant funding to so-called “crisis pregnancy centers,” which have been known to lie to women about reproductive health while discouraging them away from abortions. The bill now heads to the Ohio state House. [Raw Story] Keep reading »
