Women In A Gumball Machine: Is This The Most Sexist Ad For Online Dating Ever?

We know it’s, like, a law that beer and fast food commercials use offensive, usually sexist, stereotypes about chicks and dudes … but online dating sites? This “Femme-o-matic” commercial for Belgian dating site Vind een Lief is confusing, but the basic premise seems to be that online dating is just like ordering up a hot blonde from a gumball machine. Because us ladies all so interchangeable, you know, and men don’t care about anything more than our looks! With all the blonde women lying around in kiddie pools and washing cars in short shorts, you’d think Vind een Lief would want people to believe it’s an escort service. But hey, maybe something got lost in translation. (Imagery NSFW, although naughty language is subtitled.) [Copyranter] Keep reading »

Sarah Palin On The Double Standard For Women

“Women are held to a different standard in all areas. Let’s work harder, produce more and better and get over it. I’m through whining about a liberal press that holds conservative women to a different standard because it doesn’t do any good to whine about it.”

Sarah Palin, as much as I hate to admit it, had a point on Fox News the other night when she spoke about double standards women face (in response to Michele Bachmann noodling a presidential run and comedian Bill Maher calling Palin a “t**t.”) Nothing is worse than so-called “liberals” who think it’s acceptable to make sexist comments about conservative female politicians. (Sarah’s complaint about the “liberal media” is a bunch of bunk, though.) [USA Today] Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: Bill Maher Calls Sarah Palin A Vagina (Only In More Vulgar Terms)

  • Comedian Bill Maher, who fancies himself “edgy” or something, called Sarah Palin a “dumb tw*t” on Friday night’s episode of “Real Time With Bill Maher.” Because, you know, he’s edgy! The National Organization for Women swiftly responded with a rolling-their-eyes statement. “Stop degrading women with whom you disagree and/or don’t like by using female body terms or other gender-associated slurs,” said Lisa Bennett, NOW’s communications director, in a statement. “If you think someone’s an idiot or a danger to the country, feel free to say so, but try to keep their sex out of it. Sexist insults have an impact on all women.” [Examiner]

  • Three transgender people have filed a lawsuit against the City of New York and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene claiming that the requirement that they undergo several sex change surgeries before they can legally change their gender on their birth certificate is prohibitive. (Some transgender people, for example, take hormone therapy but cannot afford/choose not to have the actual sex change surgery performed.) [Raw Story]

Is "Jersey Shore" Sexist?

WTF, Florida?!?! Residents of Tampa received a mailer about mayoral candidate Rose Ferlita warning them that this deranged harpy is “Unmarried. Unsure. Unelectable.” What kind of freak wouldn’t be married? Someone who is unfit for public office, that’s who! Rose Ferlita “put her political ambitions first and foremost,” the mailer reads, “while her opponent is a dedicated family man with two children. Ferlita is an unmarried woman with a suspect commitment to family values.” Translation: she’s not married because she’s a BIG OLD LESBO. Actually, I don’t know if that’s the rumor about Rose Ferlita and I don’t care. Exorciating an ambitious female candidate because she’s single and childless — qualities few would bat an eyelash about if they were applied to men — is one of the most sexist political attacks I’ve ever seen. Little Girls Debut Music Video Criticizing Lil Wayne’s Sexist Lyrics

Kick ass! A nine-year-old and a 10-year-old who call themselves Watoto From The Nile wrote and performed a hip-hop song about rapper Lil Wayne’s derogatory and sexist lyrics. Vinny Swears “Jersey Shore” Isn’t Sexist

Vinny and Snooki photo

“We have our catchphrases about girls ['grenade,' etc.] but the four girls on the show are as wild as the guys. It’s not just one way. It’s not biased or sexist.”

— Oh, Vinny Guadagnino. You might be the smartest (and most emotionally mature!) cast member on “Jersey Shore,” but you’re still a dim bulb. [Celeb Dirty Laundry]

Quickies: Sarah Palin Is “Great Masturbation Material” For Tracy Morgan

  • Tracy Morgan called Sarah Palin “great masturbation material” — a sexist assessment of the telegenic but dimwitted ex-governor, but nevertheless one that holds a grain of truth. So, if his “30 Rock” co-star Tina Fey does a spot-on Sarah Palin impersonation, does that mean Tracy thinks Tina is great masturbation material, too? [The Superficial]
  • Author Terry McMillian recently tweeted that Willow and Jaden Smith were being “pimped” and “exploited” by their parents, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, and that she saw an “arrogance in their demeanor and behavior.” She then issued an apology, no doubt in response to rabid “Whip My Hair” fans. ESPN Announcer Off Air After Calling Female Colleague “Sweetcakes”

ESPN football announcer Ron Franklin was not allowed on-air this weekend after he allegedly called a female colleague, Jeannine Edwards, “sweetcakes” and then an “a-hole.”

Franklin, 68, supposedly made the sexist comments in a production meeting on Friday. Edwards reportedly tried to butt in on a conversation he was having with another announcer, so he shut her down and called her “sweetcakes.” When she told him that language was unacceptable, he replied “Okay then, a**hole.”

Maybe it sounded more badass in his head? Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: Brett Favre’s Accuser Says The NFL Is Sexist

  • Brett Favre will be fined $50,000 — but not suspended — by the National Football League for not cooperating with an investigation into his shady behavior. In response to Favre’s punishment, his alleged victim, former New York Jets employee Jenn Sterger, is trashing the NHL for being sexist and claiming she provided insufficient evidence. “Today’s decision is an affront to all females and shows once again that, despite tough talk, the NFL remains the good old boys’ league,” Sterger said through a lawyer. I couldn’t agree more, frankly. [TMZ.com]
