Can The Sex Be Hotter If You’re About To Break Up?

New York magazine’s “Sex Diaries” issue is on stands now and it’s a fairly entertaining read. The feature spotlights a number of different New Yorkers who have shared the details of their sex life over a period of days. The one that interested me the most was written by a 29-year-old expat living in Cabo San Lucas with her boyfriend, or, rather, her “future ex-boyfriend” (FEB) whom she’s about to dump in favor of moving back to the states. Her sex diary is an up-and-down tale of being angry and then sad and then horny, as she and her FEB fight and then f**k. “It’s the first time I’ve ever cried during sex,” she writes, “And the first I’ve also had such a strong orgasm come with it.” Color me crazy, but when I’m angry or sad with a boyfriend, the last thing I want to do is screw. But maybe I’m alone! A commenter on her sex diary wrote, “I totally get the whole knowing-you’re-about-breakup-makes-hooking-up-awesome-thing.” Do you get it? Have you had amazing sex with someone, knowing the relationship was about to end? [NYMag.com] Keep reading »

Marie Claire Writer Dons A Strap-On

In the November issue of Marie Claire, dating blogger Maura Kelly writes about a guy she dated briefly who confessed to enjoying “a kind of sex that people don’t usually associate with straight men.” Oh yes, Kelly’s man liked to take it from behind, courtesy of a strap-on attached to his female partner. (Like the one Madonna bought for her and Guy Ritchie in the photo at left!) He assured Kelly he wasn’t gay or bisexual, he just liked to be dominated. And Kelly complied, giving him what he wanted for the few months they dated. I found this whole story fascinating, as I’ve always, admittedly, been a little curious about what it would be like to be THAT dominant in bed. To be the one doing the actual penetrating, I suppose. Here’s how Kelly describes it:

As I moved my hips and did my thing, I felt strangely removed from the experience. The kinky deed seemed unsexual and anything but intimate — after all, my primary erogenous zone was covered up by a giant fake penis.

Huh. OK, so sounds like a bit of a dud. Is this something any of you have tried? Would you? Or does it sound like a complete and utter turn-off? [Marie Claire] Keep reading »

8 Reasons You’re Not Having Enough Sex

British sexpert, Bettina Arndt, asked 100 couples to keep diaries about their sex lives for a year. In her experience, spicing things up can really solve any problems in the bedroom and that’s what she was hoping to prove. While she expected to read some salacious tales of romantic rendezvous, what she got really put the love in love life. People bared their souls and divulged their deepest, darkest feelings — wait, men have feelings?! Just kidding! Arndt has just published her findings in The Sex Diaries: Why Women Go Soft And Other Bedroom Battles based on what the couples wrote in their journals. It sounds like the perfect summer read, but if you’re like us circa high school, you’d rather skim the Cliff’s Notes. Here are eight reasons why couples stop having sex. [Daily Mail] Keep reading »
