The Top Five Ickiest Movie Sex Scenes

One of the biggest themes to sell movie tickets is sex. Movies packed with steamy love scenes usually prove to be the biggest sellers. But what happens when a film contains love scenes which fall far from erotic? Check out the top five unsexiest love scenes in movies, after the jump… Keep reading »

The Daily Squeeze: Black-Footed Ferrets, Sex Ed Videos, Sports Fans, And Yigal Azroul Condoms

  • Two black-footed ferrets at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo gave birth to “kits” (baby ferrets). The really interesting part of this story is that the kits fathers are both dead — one died in 1999 and the other in 2000. Since the species is endangered, the female ferrets were artificially inseminated with frozen semen from the dead males. [LiveScience]

    Sex In The Bible

You might think the Bible wouldn’t have much sex in it, it being a religious book and all, but Time magazine points out that there are quite a few passages that deal with people doing it. Our favorite from their selection: “While the king was on his couch, my nard gave forth its fragrance.” [Time] Keep reading »

Quote Of The Day: James McAvoy On Filming Sex Scenes

“I don’t really enjoy them. For one thing, you’re not in love with the person. Hopefully, there’s someone out there that you would rather be kissing. It just makes it all seem a bit strange.” — James McAvoy [Thaindian News] Keep reading »

Are Rape Scenes Really “Sex” Scenes?

Nerve.com and the Independent Film Channel teamed up to produce a list of “The 50 Worst Sex Scenes In Cinema”, and while the list is seriously impressive and I found myself laughing out loud remembering the terribleness of the love scene in Howard The Duck, I also noticed that a few of the chosen scenes featured rape. There’s Irréversible, Hollowman, and Crank (well, that one is described as “rape-esque”). Obviously, this is a “worst” list, not a “best” list so it’s not like the editors are applauding the sexiness of these scenes, but I think it’s kind of weird to consider a rape scene (like the incredibly disturbing one in Irréversible) as a sex scene at all. Anyway, what do you all think? [Oh, and FYI, #1 is that god awful butter scene in Last Tango In Paris.) [IFC.com -- A few of the images and all of the videos are NSFW] Keep reading »

Frisky Quote Of The Day: Natalie Portman

“I’m not prudish about nudity. I think it’s beautiful in films, and sex is such a big part of life. My picture ended up on porn sites, and that’s the dilemma.” — Natalie Portman, who went nude for the short film, Hotel Chevalier and regrets it because that’s all the press has focused on [MTV.co.uk] Keep reading »

The Daily Squeeze: No Male Mollys, Hillary’s Women, And James Marsden’s Shyness

  • There are no male Amazon Molly fish. The females reproduce by hooking up with males of other species, though none of their sperms seems to be used, and offspring inherit only their mother’s genes. Scientists are baffled. [Telegraph.co.uk]

    Directing Movie Sex Scenes

We know that sex scenes must be fairly awkward for actors — you try to looking like you’re turned on while an audience of cameramen, technicians, craft services, etc., watch — but what’s it like to be the person who decides who caresses/touches/kisses whom, as well as when and where? Director Michael Winner told the Observer, “[Sex scenes] weren’t uncomfortable for me except when Marlon Brando insisted on wearing pants and Wellingtons when he was meant to be naked having sex with Stephanie Beacham in an erotic scene in The Nightcomers. The cameraman kept calling ‘pants’ or ‘Wellington boots,’ indicating they were in the shot. The minute I said ‘cut’ I was on the floor crying with laughter. The scene came out superbly.” [Guardian.co.uk] Keep reading »

The Daily Squeeze: Sex In Movies

  • If you’re planning on staying home this weekend to lounge around in your pajamas and watch a DVD, track down a copy of Power and Passion: The Technology of Orgasm, a doc about sex toys and their history. (The electromechanical vibrator was invented in 1883, the same year as the toaster!) [Variety via Jezebel]
  • Why is it that the sex in mainstream American movies often features an amorous couple knocking over of furniture (something that doesn’t seem all that common in our everyday lives)? This writer thinks its because we’re uncomfortable with sex. [SFGate]
