Thoughts From Guys On Our IM: Sex And The City Madness

That movie comes out this weekend. You know…that movie. The premiere is tonight in New York and we weren’t invited, so we’re sort of pissed. As we reflect upon the biggest show in the history of television for ladies (more on that later this week), we decided to ask the dudes on our IM how they felt about Sex and the City and the legions of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte wannabes it created. Needless to say, they were never impressed. Their thoughts, after the jump. Keep reading »

Sex And The City Is Going To Do Just Fine

Some people are wondering whether the Sex and the City movie will be a blockbuster since most summer movies appeal to guys, and there really haven’t been any female-focused rated R movies of this scale. But I have reason to believe that the movie is going to be a success. Two weeks ago, I told all of my friends I was going to buy tickets to Sex and the City for opening night. I was very concerned it was going to sell out and didn’t want to miss the hysteria that will certainly take over theaters on Friday. Then I got busy and forgot to actually purchase them, and now, from what I can tell, the freaking movie is sold out in every theater in New York. I have no idea how this is possible, but now my friends hate me (if you have extra tickets, let me know!), however, I don’t think I’m alone in my predicament. “We can’t remember the last time a movie has created so much anticipation among female moviegoers from their 20s through their 40s,” said Harry Medved, a spokesman for Fandango. Harry said they’re getting a lot of group ticket sales, and 67 percent of those surveyed by the site said they were planning to go in a group of women. Only 6 percent said they were going with a man. I think that all the men who are being dragged along should give their tickets to people who actually want to go, and then everyone will be happy. [AP] Keep reading »

StyleHiving: The Women Of Sex And The City

For six seasons, Sex and the City made it its mission to shape pretty much every aspect of our lives — the cocktails we drank, the ensembles we wore, the way we dished about sex, how we dealt with men, how many friends we had (you know you feel kinda like you’re living in your own little SATC world every time you’re out with four friends!), how we defined ourselves (I consider myself a “Carrie”, what about you?), and so much more. The SATC impact is so strong, it continued on unabated well after the series ended. May 30th is just around the corner, a date marking the much anticipated SATC movie premiere where we will all be reunited with our four favorite fictional gal pals. Once it hits, there is little doubt that this is all anyone will be talking about (well, the entire female population at least), and any garment even remotely resembling an item seen on the big screen will fly off the racks faster than you can say Manolo Blahnik.

Thanks to a little thing called “promotional pictures”, we can satiate out intense need for a SATC fix, plus get a head-start on replicating the signature styles of our favorite socialistas. Why not start by channeling your inner Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, or Charlotte on your next big date? Keep reading »

Crave: SJP In Square Pegs

Confession: I’ve actually never seen Square Pegs, the short-lived series from 1982 starring Sarah Jessica Parker. The show is about Patty (SJP) and Lauren (Amy Linker), who are just two freshman high schoolers trying to fit in. Lately, with all of the press for the Sex and the City movie, I’ve been reading a lot about it, and lucky me, it just came out on DVD! [Amazon.com] Keep reading »

No SATC Ads In Jerusalem

The billboard company responsible for advertising the Sex and the City movie decided not to hang posters or billboards in Jerusalem or Petah Tikva because of the two cities’ large religious populations. Residents of Jerusalem and Petah Tikva are very lucky. [Jerusalem Post] Keep reading »

    Buy Your Own Mr. Big

Well, it was bound to happen. A U.K. sex toy company is releasing a limit edition of the rabbit (you know, the vibrator Charlotte falls in love with) called “Mr. Big” in honor of the May 30th release of Sex and the City: The Movie. [Shine] Keep reading »

Big Apple Hotel Offers Mr. Big Package

On Friday, May 30th, shoe stores will be empty, makeup counters customerless, salons won’t have a hair to do, and every man in America will be single for a few hours. It’s opening night of the Sex and the City movie! While looking at all the ads alone can increase your levels of estrogen, and thereby your need for a cosmo, what are the men to do when they have the whole world — sans movie theaters — in the palm of their hands?
