One of my friends posted a link to this perplexing Comme Des Garcons garment on her Facebook wall the other day, asking if anyone could explain it to her. I’ve been looking at it for, like, six hours total now, and I still have no idea why it exists. I mean, it kind of looks like a strap used for archery, but there’s nowhere to put the arrows, and I don’t know many archers who would splash out so much extra money for red sequins. It’s officially titled “Sequin Top” but it doesn’t cover any of the areas a top traditionally covers. Also it costs over $400, even on sale. Whyyyyy? [$423, Farfetch]

Holiday Must Haves: 10 Subtly Sequined Pieces

One of my favorite things about the holiday season is that it’s one of the only socially acceptable times to dress like a human disco ball. If I had my way I would wear this dress every day of my life (even days that included grocery shopping and dentist appointments), so I get really excited to peruse all the gold sequin blazers and red sequin mini dresses that fill the stores every November. But I understand that not everyone shares my philosophy that there is no such thing as too many sequins. Maybe you want to add a little sparkle into your wardrobe this holiday season without going overboard. Maybe you’re looking for something festive you can wear to work without looking like that crazy Christmas-obsessed lady who has a motion-activated Santa Claus figure on her desk. Whatever your reason, I found 10 lovely pieces of clothing that are embellished with a mere smattering of sequins, just for you. Click through to check ‘em out…

You know in movies when a character is so deep in thought they wander around the city completely unaware of their surroundings, stepping in front of buses and scattering flocks of pigeons? That was me yesterday, pondering sequined shorts. As a diehard fan of sequins, I love every sparkly trend, but sequined shorts bring up so many questions. Are they a sassy new option to pair with tights for holiday parties? Is it possible to wear them without looking like an escaped castmember of Chicago? If your thighs rubbed together would it produce a metallic grating sound? I might need to meditate for awhile to find some answers.

So what do you think? Do you own a pair of sequin shorts? Any plans to rock them this winter? [Chelsea & Violet Sequin Shorts, $88, Dillard's]

If you would have told us a few years ago that we’d want to wear sequins all over one day, we would have laughed hysterically. But now we’re adding sequins to the list of things we said we would never wear yet can’t get enough of. Sequins are a dazzling way to take part in the metallic trend and are totally appropriate for day when the other clothes you’re wearing are simple. For instance, if you’ve decided on a pair of sequin pants, then add a simple, white button-down blouse to contrast the glitz. Ditto goes for a sequin skirt or shorts. Sequin jackets look amazing with distressed jeans for day, but wearing black crop pants at night is a playful take on a tuxedo. Sequin dresses are best left for nights out and sequin T-shirts will become a wardrobe staple.
