Why “Ringer” Felt A Touch Disappointing

All summer, I have been oh so excited for Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s return to television in “Ringer,” a show about a recovering alcoholic twin on the run from the mob who seizes the opportunity to assume her estranged sister’s life after she commits suicide. Last night, the show finally premiered on The CW. And overall, my feelings on it were … mixed. (If you haven’t watched yet, be warned—SPOILERS ahead.) Keep reading »

Jennifer Aniston And Sarah Michelle Gellar Both Heading To Soap Operas

It looks like James Franco sure started a trend when he appeared on “General Hospital.” Today, we hear reports that both Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Michelle Gellar are signing in for soap opera stints. Luckily, they aren’t doing it as performance art, though. Jennifer has a very practical reason for agreeing to guest star on “Days of Our Lives.” Her father John Aniston has been on the show for the last 24 years, and now NBC has said the series is on the chopping block due to low ratings. Sarah Michelle Gellar Loves New TV Show More Than She Expected

“I didn’t realize how much I miss the atmosphere until I started back. There’s something about television—seeing the same people everyday, looking forward to the scripts. I’m loving it more than I thought I was going to … I want to be able to go home at night and see my daughter,I want to be there for her first day of school and her school recital. Television offers me that — they’re amazing at working around schedules. All of the big milestones I’m there for.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar talks about life on the set of her new show, “Ringer,” years after wrapping “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Wait a second—I had no idea that she and husband Freddie Prince Jr. had a baby. But, yes, they do! Her name is Charlotte and she is 22 months. And Freddie is staying home with her while her mama works. Cute! Now, where have I been? [People] Keep reading »

Sarah Michelle Gellar Times Two In “Ringer”

Comic-Con 2011 kicks off today with panels for “Breaking Dawn,” “Game of Thrones,” “Dexter,” and much more. But perhaps the most anticipated panel of the day will be for Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s return to network television, “Ringer.” The panel will be going down at 1:45 p.m., but The CW has released the first poster for the show this morning. Almost as exciting as the fact that the show stars Buffy as two characters? Nester Carbonell, aka Richard Alpert of “Lost,” is in it too! Hawt. Keep reading »

Sarah Michelle Gellar Gets The Winkelvoss Treatment In “Ringer”

“The second you take away fight sequences … let me tell you something, your days lighten up a lot. Also, the girl playing my twin sister is always on time, always hits her marks, always knows her lines, always agrees with everything I say—they’re some of the easiest scenes I’ve ever filmed. I can’t believe how far visual effects have come—it’s been a while since I’ve been this involved. It’s much faster but it’s still a learning process with face replacement technology. Yet I hug my myself, I lay my head on her shoulder, there’s so much you can do. I thought it would be old school Patty Duke, like [sings] “We’re cousins!” It’s not like that anymore.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar talks about her new show, “Ringer,” in which she plays twin sisters, one who assumes the other’s life. Overall, she says playing two separate people is still easier than doing Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s fight scenes. [PopWrap]

All Up In The Upfronts: The Fall Shows We Are Pumped For, Part 4

Okay, fine, I’ll admit it. I’m a little mad at The CW for canceling “Hellcats,” the show starring Aly Michalka and Ashley Tisdale as competitive college cheerleaders that happened to be loosely based on my book, CHEER!. That said, I’m getting over it because they are bringing two of my favorites—Sarah Michelle Gellar and Rachel Bilson—back to the small screen after years off the air.

After the jump, check out the network’s new offerings that we will absolutely be DVRing. Keep reading »

Sarah Michelle Gellar Thinks A Buffy Reboot Is “The Worst Idea Ever”

Speaking of reboots of classic female heroines, Sarah Michelle Gellar spoke to CNN this week about (a) her partnership with Nestle’s Share the Joy of Reading project and (b) the new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” movie that Warner Brothers is currently working on. And our girl does not mince words. “It was a movie, it’s been made—it stars Kristy Swanson. They don’t need to make another one. I think it’s a horrible idea to try to do a ‘Buffy’ without Joss Whedon!” Sarah Michelle said. “That’s like honestly, to be incredibly non-eloquent, that’s the dumbest idea I ever heard.” Co-sign. Even if they cast the awesome Heather Morris of “Glee,” it just won’t be right. [NY Post] Keep reading »

Buffy Who? Sarah Michelle Gellar To Star In A New Thriller Series

Over the weekend, I got sucked into a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” marathon on Oxygen. The classic vampire show was, in a word, amazing and Sarah Michelle Gellar was the perfect mix of kick-butt and vulnerable, with spot-on comedic timing. So why has her career tanked? Luckily, Sarah has a new show in the works—CBS’ “Ringer.” (Which bears no relationship to “The Ring.”) In this now-greenlit thriller series, Sarah plays twin sisters, uber-troubled Bridget and wealthy, perfect Siobhan, who had a big falling out for some mysterious reason. When Siobhan dies in a boating accident, troubled Bridget steps in and assumes her life, even sleeping in the same bed with her husband, only to find that she has a bounty on her head, too. Heather Morris To Be Buffy? How She Stacks Up To Sarah Michelle Gellar And Kristy Swanson

Back in November, we told you that Warner Brothers is making a new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” movie, only without Sarah Michelle Gellar, who became a girl power icon on the TV show, or Joss Whedon, who created both the series and the 1992 movie. Naturally, this doesn’t have us Buffy-philes very happy. But some casting news could be the silver lining on a cloudy day. Apparently, Heather Morris—aka the amazing Brittany on “Glee“—is being courted for the role. “They’re considering me!” Heather says. “I found out and I almost peed my pants ’cause I was so excited!”

So how does Heather compare to her Buffy predecessors, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kristy Swanson? A full analysis after the jump. Keep reading »

A New “Buffy” Movie? Don’t Get Too Excited

When I heard yesterday that “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” had been greenlighted for a movie adaption—again—I felt my heart start to palpitate. My first thoughts were: What will Joss Whedon have up his sleeve this time? Gosh, it will be so nice to see Sarah Michelle Gellar kick some butt again. And, most importantly, will Spike be back?

But then I started reading more, and my initial excitement turned to outrage. First off, there’s no word yet on whether Sarah Michelle will be reprising her iconic role. And, apparently, Joss will have nothing to do with this new movie at all. Keep reading »
