I just don’t get it, SJP. Aren’t you supposed to be, like, a fashion thing? I’m cool with the dress, even though it looks kind of like a Thanksgiving tablecloth, but paired with snakeskin pumps in Lisa Frank’s favorite colors and a blue velvet purse, I can’t help but feel like even Carrie Bradshaw would get all judgy on this one. This isn’t a look, it’s just like, items.

While I am empathetic to the plight of the CW’s morning show “Eye Opener,” which I did not know existed until I saw this clip, and their desperate need to drum up controversy and attention, their sexist stunt right on the heels of chitchatting about a sexist stunt is beyond idiotic. On Friday, two male and one female hosts were gabbing about Gretchen Carlson jokingly walking off the “Fox & Friends” set after her male co-host made a sexist remark. After a little bit of banter about how the male cohosts had better behave themselves, one of them introduces the show’s next segment about Barack Obama fundaraiser like this: “Is a dog campaigning for Obama? I’m not trying to be a jerk, but there’s something kind of inappropriate about seeing Sarah Jessica Parker’s bra at this point, don’t you think? It’s like, geez, just put it away already, okay? That said, you know I love a sheer lace thing.
Understandably, the role of a high school-aged Carrie Bradshaw is highly coveted among legions of young actresses, but the character that led Sarah Jessica Parker to enduring fame leaves behind some seriously big shoes (Manolos, naturally) for a starlet to fill. “The Carrie Diaries,” Candace Bushnell’s prequel novel to the much-loved series, is coming to life on the small screen, and AnnaSophia Robb has snagged the eponymous role. A number of others were rumored to be in talks for the part, including Blake Lively and Elizabeth Olsen, but the 18-year-old actress best recognized for 2007′s heartbreaking “Bridge to Terabithia,” emerged victorious. The series will air on the CW, the network responsible for such successful young adult shows as “Gossip Girl” and “One Tree Hill,” but I have my reservations. I think AnnaSophia is adorable, and perfectly well-suited to the part, but the question stands — will Carrie Bradshaw, completely out of context, even hold a candle to the unapologetically fabulous thirty-something Carrie Bradshaw we all know and love? Last night was the eve of the official New York Fashion Week kickoff, and the American Foundation for AIDS Research’s Annual New York Gala at Cipriani Wall Street was the place to see and be seen — that is, if you’re an A-list model, celebrity, entrepreneur, or fashionista. The yearly event, hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker, raises money for — you guessed it — AIDS research, prevention, and education. This year’s reception honored the work of Roberto Cavalli. With this many fashion heavy-hitters in one place, there’s bound to be some serious outfit trauma, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the good far outweighed the bad. There were so many amazing looks last night, but there was also some bad, and then … the very, very meh. And yes, if you were wondering, Heidi Klum is still wearing her ring.
