While We Fight For Birth Control Coverage, Medicare Is Spending Millions On Penis Pumps

It's A Whole New Brand Of Double Standard!

We know that conservative Republicans go batshit insane over the idea of the Affordable Healthcare Act covering preventative health care like birth control. But thanks to “The Daily Show,” we now know that America has bigger problems, literally: Medicare is spending millions on penis pumps. The program has spent $172 million in the past five years, to be exact. Apparently there are a lot of limp penises in need in the United States. How did contraception manage to be considered a more controversial use of government money than a contraption that makes your dick big and hard? Of course, Samantha Bee addresses this hypocrisy in a way that nobody else could. [NARAL]

Yup, even alongside smart-assery from Samantha Bee and Jason Jones, watching gay couples wed makes me tear up! The adorable “Daily Show” corresondents — a husband and wife duo of 10 years — were there on Sunday when same-sex marriage became legal in New York State; somebody had to warn these couples about what they are getting into. The Women Of “The Daily Show” Say It’s Not A Boys’ Club, Jon Stewart Is Not A Sexist Jerk

A few weeks ago, our fellow ladyblog Jezebel.com wrote a post about “The Daily Show,” in which female employees past and present say women correspondents and joke writers aren’t valued as much as men. One past female employee straight-up called it a “boys’ club”; another said the show doesn’t want the jokes and skits to be “too female,” presumably because they might alienate male viewers. When Jezebel penned “The Daily Show’s Woman Problem,” actress/comedian/ex-Playboy model Olivia Munn had just joined the heavily male show and she was the first woman to do so — after Samantha Bee and Kristen Schaal — in several years. Lots of peeps were complaining that “The Daily Show” hires so many new male correspondents, but the most recent female one they hire had Playboy on her resume. All that, when the show is supposed to be so progressive and liberal! It all came to a head last week, when Jon Stewart yelped on air, “Jezebel.com thinks I’m a sexist pr**k!”

Now the women of “The Daily Show” have responded on Comedy Central’s website and they want you to know: they love their job, Jon Stewart is not sexist, and everything is rainbows and bunnies. Portions of their letter, after the jump … Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: Samantha Bee On Tuesday’s “Ladies’ Night” Election

6/9/10 in :60 Seconds www.thedailyshow.com

  • Samantha Bee, have we told you lately that we love you? [The Daily Show]
  • On Tuesday night, a Queens, New York, sex offender beat his girlfriend, Tiffany Pettiford, to death with a baseball bat while his other girlfriend (?) and two children watched. Isaiah Smith, who was convicted in 1990 of raping a 10-year-old girl, allegedly suspected his girlfriend was cheating on him because she had left for several days. Pardon me, but why was someone who raped a child let out of prison in the first place? [New York Daily News]
  • The International Ski Federation has voted to create a women’s World Cup circuit beginning with the 2011-12 season with the goal of bringing women’s ski jumping to the Olympics in 2014. [Vancouver Sun]

Samantha Bee Talks Princesses, Airbrushing And Her Vagina In Part 2 Of Our Frisky Q&A

Watch your bestseller-list ass, Chelsea Handler. For years, Samantha Bee has been giving brain boners as Most Senior Correspondent on “The Daily Show” and now Canada’s finest import has published her first book, a collection of autobiographical essays titled I Know I Am, But What Are You?.

From saucy recaps of her Barbie dolls’ sex lives to the bittersweet tale of meeting husband, fellow “Daily Show” correspondent Jason Jones, while performing a Sailor Moon musical for children, Bee’s book will have you snorting milk out of your nose (or else something is seriously wrong with you). And because she is awesome, Bee poses on her own book cover in a bumblebee costume. But don’t worry, boys, in the author photo on the back cover she is nude.

Bee agreed to chat with The Frisky, so I called her up armed with list of questions. In part one of our interview, we talked about the expected — being a woman in comedy, her book, and “The Daily Show,” of course. What I did not expect was that she would start our interview by telling me about her vagina. Keep reading »

Frisky Q&A: Samantha Bee Talks About Her Hilarious Dream Job

Watch your bestseller-list ass, Chelsea Handler. For years, Samantha Bee has been giving brain boners as the Most Senior Correspondent on “The Daily Show,” and now Canada’s finest import has published her first book, a collection of autobiographical essays, I Know I Am, But What Are You? In part one of my interview with Bee, we talked a little bit about her book (more on that in part two), but also about how she got her start in comedy. Keep reading »

Samantha Bee Does “Law & Order”

There was a time in my life—let’s call it “being unemployed”—where I watched a terrifying amount of “Law & Order.” It got to the point where I recognized the writers’ favorite tricks (The kids did it! They did it to save the state of Israel!), where the gong/gavel sound invaded my dreams, and where I’d know I’d already seen an episode but re-watched it anyway because I couldn’t quite remember how the story unfolded. Once I got a job, I swore off “Law & Order” and resisted its ripped-from-the-headlines temptations. But I will absolutely be watching tomorrow night. Why? Because Samantha Bee, aka the sugar in the coffee that is “The Daily Show,” will be starring in it as a talk show host who had an affair with a female staffer and opens her car door one morning to find a package from an extortionist. Yes, the story is an obvious play on the David Letterman scandal—only, in true “Law & Order” form, a body drops. In the episode, Samantha’s character even takes words directly out of Letterman’s mouth, saying, “I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve been having a pretty lousy week.” [NY Daily News]

Who’s America’s Sexiest Comedienne?

Obviously, we are big Tina Fey, Amy Sedaris, and Aisha Tyler enthusiasts. So we immediately clicked on this Huffington Post poll about 15 of the leading ladies of funny. But—wait—it asks readers to rate the women on their looks? Even HuffPo acknowledges that it’s a “poll of ridiculous proportions.” Sure, these women are beautiful. But it’s their wit, slapstick antics, and all-around hilariousness that stole our hearts. So while we wished they asked, “Who’s the funniest comedienne?” we decided to take a look at the current rankings. What we found may surprise you. Keep reading »
