This App Will Send Beauty And Fitness Pros Right To Your Door

PRIV App

If you live in Manhattan, a new app called PRIV will send beauty, fitness, or wellness pros right to your apartment within an hour. Through PRIV, you can request a personal trainer, yoga instructor, masseuse, hairstylist, manicurist or aspray-tanning pro to pay a house call (or even visit your office). Essentially, it’s like the Uber of beauty and fitness. Where was this service during all my high school sleepovers? Considering how far ahead I have to call to get a hair appointment in New York, this app is a potential lifesaver. I keep daydreaming about how nice it would be to ring up a manicurist and have my nails done while I sit on the couch watching Netflix, or have a yoga instructor pay me a visit when I’m in a funk. Scrolling through the app is like looking at a shopping list of available certified professionals in your vicinity. The pros have profiles posted that share their work history and talents, and service is available 24/7. The app itself is free, and each service has a set price listed when you choose it, including tip, which is a far cry from that awkward moment at the end of a salon appointment when you find out a surprise fee has been tacked onto your bill. PRIV intends to expand beyond Manhattan to the rest of New York City shortly (come visit me in Brooklyn, PRIV!), and services will be available in San Francisco, LA and Miami by 2015. Sounds like a sweet deal to me. New Yorkers, have any of you tried it? [PRIV]

9 Signs He's Gay
Are you always making the first move? Maybe he's gay. Read More »

I boldly venture into sexist territory. I move we take the “man” out of mani/pedi. Why? Because sitting next to someone of the opposite sex in my nail salon is different than sitting side-by-side with another woman. It just is.

I fully accept that some nice metrosexual may want his nails buffed or feet scrubbed ‘til they’re callus-free; nothing beats the feeling. I just wish he would take his good grooming business to the place where he gets a shave and a haircut. Keep reading »

The Most Popular Salon In Town

Look at the specials at this salon, which I’m assuming is the most popular salon in town. The customers must be banging down the door screaming, “I want to go to there.” [World of Wonder] Keep reading »

Salon Owner Accused Of Swindling Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway, Cher

Maria Gabrielle Perez styles the hair of Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway, Cher, Liv Tyler, and Melanie Griffith at the beauty salon Chez Gabriela Studio. Naturally, her services are expensive. But this is just ridiculous. After paying with credit cards at the salon, these stars’ information was skimmed and, afterwards, mysterious charges began showing up on their statements. On Liv Tyler’s card alone, there was supposedly $214,000 worth of fraudulent charges from the salon! The Secret Service arrested Perez yesterday and she faces two counts of fraud. Guess these ladies will have to find a new salon. [Radar] Keep reading »

Should I Get A Cut Or Color First?

I go to two separate hairdressers for my cut and color, yet often I like to schedule both appointments within a few days of each other to take care of my hair as quick as I can. Perhaps you also have stylists you stay loyal to, or you’re pressed for time and need to make two different visits—which do you do first, the cut or the color? Keep reading »
