This Week In Missing The Point, Starring Rush Limbaugh And Sean Hannity

Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity

Wealthy White Guys Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity demonstrated their ongoing obliviousness this week by completely ignoring everything that matters about issues like rape and child abuse, throwing out incredibly dumb red herrings on the issues instead.

First, Limbaugh asserted on his radio show that “no means yes if you know how to spot it” and lamented that “that used to be part of the advice boys were given” — that “no” means “yes,” that is. Oh, woe is me, Rush Limbaugh. It’s so terrible that boys aren’t being told to make women’s minds up for them as far as consent goes (or in other words, you know, rape women). This was in response to Ohio State’s enthusiastic consent policy, which requires explicit verbal consent at every step of a sexual interaction, a policy which, by the way, benefits all students at Ohio State, not just female students. Lord knows, the really important thing about America’s campus rape epidemic isn’t, you know, the fact that there are so many victims of rape, or the fact that campus rape investigations get fucked up so often — partially because universities’ policies on rape are vague, a problem which this policy seeks to solve — but the potential loss of the “art of seduction.” GAG. Trans Woman Schools Rush Limbaugh On Trans Rights And Anal Sex (And He Kinda Listens!)

Trans Woman Schools Rush Limbaugh On Trans Rights And Anal Sex (And He Kinda Listens!)
"Oh no! I've been for trannies for a long time."

Listen, I’m not about to throw Rush Limbaugh a parade or anything, but perhaps for the first time in his life, the conservative shock jock actually let a critic get a word in edgewise. Via Jezebel, a trans woman named Tina called into Limbaugh’s radio show to criticize his coverage of TIME‘s Laverne Cox/trans rights cover story. When Rush rather annoyingly claimed he’s “been for trannies for a long time,” the caller enlightened him to the fact that, yes, “tranny” is still considered an offensive slur even though Alec Baldwin used it that one time. Then, seemingly having Limbaugh’s attention, she went on to explain just some of the prejudices she faces as a trans woman:

“One of the things about being transgender is that whatever somebody’s sexual preference is, you’re not it. Gay men don’t want anything to do with effeminate types and straight men don’t want to have anything to do with people who’ve got wrong plumbing or wrong history and lesbian women are interested in certain things that’s just never gonna be the same no matter how much surgery you have, so that definitely is a problem.”

Rush Limbaugh Says Ohio Kidnap Victims Are Part Of A Welfare Scheme, And It’s All Obama’s Fault

"Double welfare benefits if one of the women has a baby"

Sometimes terrible things happen, and they’re so unbelievably heinous, all you can do is gasp in horror. That’s the general response most of us have had to the harrowing story of Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus — three women kidnapped, chained and held against their will in Cleveland, Ohio, for a decade. But oh, that’s not what Rush Limbaugh did. Instead, on his broadcast last night, Rush decided to wax philosophical on what it all means. You see, Rush Limbaugh watched an episode of “Hawaii 5-0″ last night. It was about kidnapped and murdered women who were used in a welfare plot. And in between contemplating his lonely, sad, dessicated existence, Rush conjured up a tacky ass conspiracy theory about the Ohio kidnapping victims.

It goes something like this: What if the Ohio “victims” were actually part of a huge welfare scam. And also, they all voted for Obama, so you know! Basically, this whole thing is just what happens when you elect Obama! And these chicks are just welfare queens waiting to happen! He also helpfully points out that the women get “double welfare benefits if one of the women has a baby,” after noting that one of the women, Amanda Berry, did, in fact, have a baby — a child she had after being raped, likely by Ariel Castro. Rush Limbaugh Thinks Beyoncé’s Song “Bow Down” Is About Submitting To Jay-Z

rush limbaugh beyonce
  • Today in Things Rush Limbaugh Grossly Misunderstands About America in 2013: he raved on his show about how Beyoncé’s new song “Bow Down” is an ode to wifely submission, praising her for doing a “total 180,” marrying her “rich” husband Jay-Z and “she now understands it’s worth it to bow down.” Now, had this four-times-married conservative shock jock actually listened to the song, he would know that “Bow Down” is not about wifely submission at all and is actually about jealous girls. Or that the title is not called “Bow Down Bitches.”  [Think Progress]

John Cusack Making Film About Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh is getting the Hollywood treatment, courtesy of John Cusack. The (liberal) actor’s production company plans to start work next year on a movie about Limbaugh, with Cusack playing the leading role himself, reports AP. Except for the fact that Betty Thomas is directing, no other details are known. Limbaugh, though, will be sure to love this AP comparison: “Cusack is a slender, dark-haired 46-year-old, while Limbaugh is 61, balding and portly.” Read more…
