Ooh Pretty … Rainbow Roses

I’m not the type of woman that oohs and ahhs at flowers. Basically because they die, tend to grow mold, and are kind of smelly. But even I have to admit to being mesmerized by rainbow roses. These roses in colors of the rainbow or a crayon box are created by splitting a rose stem into several “pipes” and dipping each one into a different colored water. The roses absorb the water and transfer the color to the petals. It’s a similar effect to the chrysanthemum and food coloring experiment that elementary school science teachers favor. Too bad Valentine’s Day is over, because I would have asked my imaginary boyfriend for some Happy Roses. All the way from Prague (actually they’re so cool they’re not even available in the States yet), the stems are treated with natural pigments, and then something magical happens to make each petal a different color.
