I often hear complaints that compassionate fashion is difficult to identify and access. Los Angeles-based fashion line Della is attempting to bring handcrafted clothes made in Ghana to the masses. This week, Della launched its new eight-piece capsule collection (items start at $50) in Urban Outfitters in hopes of infusing social consciousness and initiating sustainable change. Designer Tina Tangalakis works directly with a community in Hohoe, Ghana, employing over 55 employees and impacting the lives of over 250 with fair wages, education and job skills training. I don’t know about you, but I have my eye on that romper!
I love a fun statement piece that can be worn year round. This Alexander McQueen romper could be paired with tights and a jacket or rocked solo, and is the kind of onesie I could picture being worn by preppy Taylor Swift or daring Lily Allen. Unfortunately, Alexander McQueen’s romper is more than my monthly NYC rent! Try Motel’s version available at British retailer Bank Fashion. Much easier on the wallet and just as fly!
I never thought I’d have positive things to say about a romper. Maybe neutral things like ” I guess, for a romper, it’s not awful,” and definitely negative things like, “An adult onesie? God help us,” but never positive things. Then along came Selma Blair wearing this creamy silk romper with her jet black hair and red purse, looking comfortable and glamorous, and suddenly I’ve got nothing but genuine adoration for a romper. Well played, indeed. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
As popular as they may be, rompers aren’t really the most flattering piece of clothing. They tend to highlight the lower belly, cause wedgies, and induce cameltoe. And now, despite all that, clothing brand Rebel Yell has created a neon yellow smiley face romper that is just begging for comparisons to the Kool-Aid Man. No thanks. [$79, The Trend Boutique]
Good thing Lindsay Lohan’s so comfortable showing skin. She’s wearing one piece of clothing on an escalator at her own risk. [Sherman Oaks, CA, 5/20/09] Keep reading »
In the famous Ronson family, Mark’s got the music, Sam’s got the nightlife, and Charlotte, well, she got the style. From head to high-heeled wedges, her simple and sophisticated glamor make femininity seem as easy as sliding into a onesie. You know a girl’s got talent when she can turn booty shorts into a chic ensemble! And she’s done just that with the blue and white striped romper from her Summer ‘08 Collection. It’s the perfect cotton outdoor activity outfit with those little something extras — the back tie, ballet rouched halter neckline, and button pocket details. Just like her siblings, Charlotte doesn’t miss a beat. She makes us wanna romp up the volume! [$106.40, ShopBop.com]
