Samantha Geimer On Roman Polanski: “Some Old Guy Molested Me … That Is Really Not An Uncommon Thing”

“For me, some old guy molested me. In the experience of life, you understand that this is really not an uncommon thing and lots of more awful things happen to people. Other people get through it. But the trauma of the police, the publicity, the media, to have everyone say I was lying and to have my whole family involved, I felt a little responsible. We couldn’t leave the house, my phone wouldn’t stop ringing. That 10 minutes of my life with him, I didn’t get to look back on it that much because I had worse things to deal with every day.”

That’s Samantha Gailey Geimer on BitchMagazine.com discussing her new book, The Girl: A Life In The Shadow Of Roman Polanski.  The memoir, which was just published, described the incident when she was 13 during which the world-famous director gave her alcohol and quaaludes and then raped her vaginally, anally and orally. In this interview, Geimer explains how the actual rape itself was relatively small compared to the repeated harassment of her and her family by the media — she was accused of being a liar; her mother was accused of trying to shake down Polanski for money — and the pressure of performing the role of the traumatized victim to the media. samantha geimer raped by roman polanski book

In 1977, the filmmaker Roman Polanski asked the mother of a 13-year-old girl named Samantha Gailey if he could photograph her daughter for French Vogue. The mom agreed and the young girl privately posed topless for the famous director, which she later said made her feel uncomfortable.  In a second private photo session with Polanski at the Los Angeles home of Jack Nicholson, he offered her champagne and a qualude while he photographed her. Polanski then raped her vaginally, anally and orally while she repeatedly asked him to stop.

Samantha Gailey, who now goes by Samantha Geimer, is now publishing a memoir, The Girl: A Life In The Shadow Of Roman Polanski Keep reading »

I know you care about the opinions of a man who, in 1977, gave a Quaalude and champagne to a 13-year-old girl before he raped her. This weekend, filmmaker Roman Polanski said that the birth control pill has “masculinized” women and taken the “romance” out of our lives. You know, the romance of yore, like giving drugs and alcohol to 8th grade girls. Keep reading »

High fashion films have a track record of being consistently gorgeous. I’m not talking about, say, “The Devil Wears Prada” (though I will never not argue that it’s one of the best movies ever), but rather the type of high-brow videos that result from collaborations between fashion houses and illustrious directors. Take, for instance, Martin Scorsese’s short for men’s fragrance Bleu de Chanel, David Lynch’s campaign for Dior’s Lady Dior, or the Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit de L’Homme ad created by “Black Swan” director Darren Aronofsky — as you can see, efforts of this ilk have seriously beautiful outcomes. Dorian was besties with Polanski’s wife, Sharon Tate, who was murdered by Charles Manson. Polanski apparently gave her the gun to protect herself. But now the Playmate could face life in prison, after shooting her husband during an argument. [TMZ]

A Third Woman Accuses Roman Polanski Of Rape

Former model and Glamour editor Edith Vogelhut has recently come forward to say that she was also raped by Roman Polanski. Vogelhut claims that in 1974, when she was 21 years old, she met the director at an industry party. He took her back for drinks at Jack Nicholson’s home, where Polanski pressured her to take ecstasy. Later in the evening, Vogelhut said he led her into a bedroom where he handcuffed, drugged, and repeatedly sodomized her. “I was humiliated, I had absolutely no one to tell,” she says, explaining why she has kept silent for so long. Vogelhut says it was the confession of the second accuser, actress Charlotte Lewis, that gave her the strength to go to police and talk about the incident publicly. Keep reading »

Filmmaker/Exile/Rapist Roman Polanski Is Now A Free Man

Roman Polanski will walk free: Switzerland has denied the United States’ request to extradite the filmmaker on a 1977 rape charge. Back then, Polanski served 42 days of a 90 day sentence after he plead guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse for providing a Quaalude and champagne to a 13-year-old girl, who he then raped. When a judge voiced an intention to send him back to prison, Polanski fled the country and has lived in Europe ever since. Keep reading »

Woody Allen Speaks Up For Roman Polanski

Good news, Roman Polanski, a man who cheated on his partner with her adopted daughter is on your side! On Saturday, director Woody Allen told the media at the Cannes Film Festival that Polanski is “embarrassed,” “has suffered” and “has paid his dues” for a 1977 incident where he provided drugs to a 13-year-old girl and then raped her. Polanksi served 42 days in prison back in ’78, but he fled to Europe, where he has lived and made films for decades. Recently, Polanksi has been under house arrest in Switzerland and is facing jail time in the United States. Late last week, another woman accused Polanski of sexually assaulting her over two decades ago. Actress Charlotte Lewis says the director “forced himself” on her when she was 16 and they were working on the film “Pirates” together. Keep reading »

A Second Woman Says She Was Sexually Assaulted By Roman Polanski

Today, British actress Charlotte Lewis and ever-present celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred held a press conference in which Lewis accused director Roman Polanski of sexually assaulting her. Both women remained vague on the details, but stated that the assault happened in 1982 when Lewis was only 16. This was four years after Polanski fled the United States to avoid sentencing in the Samantha Geimer case. Lewis says that the director forced himself on her at his apartment in Paris. She said the circumstances were similar to Geimer’s case, though she would not comment on if this meant that rape or drugs were involved. Keep reading »

Quotable: Roman Polanski Claims Unfair Treatment

“I can no longer remain silent because the United States continues to demand my extradition more to serve me on a platter to the media of the world than to pronounce a judgment concerning which an agreement was reached 33 years ago. I have had my share of dramas and joys, as we all have, and I am not going to try to ask you to pity my lot in life. I ask only to be treated fairly like anyone else.”

Roman Polanski claims he’s being treated unfairly by being confined to his Swiss chalet while awaiting possible extradition to the U.S. for a crime he committed decades ago. He also alleges that the Los Angeles County district attorney is using his case to generate publicity and win reelection. [PopEater] Keep reading »
